Mildish Valentine's day

[Updated 07:10 14/02/2017]

Fair weather

Valentine's Day has often brought wintry conditions to the UK but that's not really the case this year. It is a chilly start in places this morning but temperatures in most of the country are above freezing. In the south west it's a wet picture as weather fronts push in from the Atlantic.

Through the rest of the day patchy outbreaks of rain gradually spread northeastwards into Wales and central England. The rest of the country stays dry but during the afternoon it turns increasingly cloudy across eastern England.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in Scotland to 12F (54F) in the south west. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight patchy spells of rain push northeastwards across central and northern regions. Late in the night further heavy bursts of rain reach the south west.

Tomorrow wet weather affects much of the country and at times the rain becomes heavy. In the south east there could be some brighter spells, and it will be mild in all regions.

Through the rest of the week the general theme is for high pressure to bring a good deal of dry weather to the south and east, with Atlantic disturbances keeping things more unsettled in the west. During the days it will feel quite spring-like in the south and by Saturday temperatures could be hitting 15C (59F). Early next week it remains mild but there are signs of winter returning towards the end of the month. Buzz investigates.
