Weather set for change

[Updated 07:00 25/01/2017]

Winter sunset

Wednesday starts frosty and foggy in southern and central counties. In the north and west of the UK it is windy and less cold.

During the rest of the day central and eastern areas stay dry with bright periods at times, but elsewhere there will be more cloud cover. In the north west patchy spells of rain are it remains windy.

Top temperatures range from 4C (39F) in the east to 10C (50F) in Northern Ireland and south west England. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight frost returns to much of the UK but in Northern Ireland it probably stays cloudier and milder. It will be blustery in the west and by the end of the night winds strengthen elsewhere.

Tomorrow another dry day is in prospect. Sunny spells develop but it will feel very raw as a strong wind blows in from the near continent.

During Friday and Saturday heavy showery outbreaks of rain are expected to spread eastwards across all regions. In the north there is a risk of snow over higher ground. Sunday should be mostly dry and cold in the north but in southern counties there could be some rain. Next week changeable conditions are expected in all regions. Buzz takes a look at the prospects.
