Plenty of thunder and lightning in Gt Yarmouth area today, plus 1 storm over Lowestoft late this morning.

Cells shooting up here to the SW and W in double quick time. Thunder already heard to the SW.

I'm certainly not complaining - quite the opposite, but again the forecast and warnings haven't come to fruition. I can say that comfortably seeing as there was supposed to be two waves of storms, one this morning and one this afternoon. Barely anything anywhere. I think thunderstorm forecasts might be even more crap and unreliable than snow forecasts can be. Extremely difficult to nail

Seems like the storm risk has now passed here - the wind has switched into the west and clouds - what there are of them - are flattening-out. Humidity has dropped - now 27.5 C @ 53% RH. Looks like I'll get that next batch of washing dry and will be watering the garden later! As Matty says - thundery activity is notoriously difficult to forecast - all the ingredients have to be in place and even then one place can be hammered yet a mile away it remains dry. It's no good having CAPE/Lifted figures off of the scale as happened during the last heatwave if there's nowt to release that energy! Signs of a decent summer when the thundery breakdowns fail more often with slack/weak frontal activity. Today's weak cold front became a warm front!

Having said this, rapid tcu development now to my SE and E - looks like folks further East could get a result! I'l have to strain my ears to see if I can hear any rumbles!

Nice little storm rolled though here - some decent proximate lightning with whipcrack thunder, although all IC.
With regard to warnings etc., its a tough call to make when instability is conditional. I guess that's why folks have to chase storms rather than stay in one place...

Very dramatic stuff going on just a couple of miles to the north along our horizon
It's sliding away to ENE but just getting some intense bursts of rain now.

A personal plea to forecasters: when there are thunderstoms in the forecast can you give the percentage chance of a downpour for different regions of the Uk rather than just saying it may or may not rain. Hope you're listening Carol!

Signs of cells electrifying north of London now as well. The northern and southern extent of strikes across England actually defines the MetO's warning boundary quite well...

Don't know why the Met Office extended the warning out to 2am Friday?

It looks it is going to be over comfortably before that, it's over now for me and I'm in the warning area.

Insane 29mm in 30 minutes from this storm hail and thunder - got to be a range of incidents over a substantial area.

Video to follow.

I am currently on holiday in South Yorkshire just to the west of Hull.

I am on the edge of the southernmost storm shown on the radar. Lightning and thunder ongoing but infrequent and high based at present. Minimal rain. But the radar shows something more intense at the centre of the cell which is still to my west. Could get interesting in the next hour.

That's quite impressive, even compared to US storms that I've chased. Constant thunder and lightning from a back-building cell line, possibly supercellular given shear I've witnessed on the back edge.

I work in Wymondham just south of Norwich. We had violent thunderstorms from 2 to 4 with very heavy rain and hail. Cheap weather station I have at work recorded 30mm of rain and a temp drop of 10c during it. Drains were struggling to cope it was quite incredible. Meanwhile at home 20 miles north missed the storm and only had 1mm of rain.

So another local disappointment, yet again this year. I get a feeling we will be repayed for our thunder drought big time though... one day that is.

Because this is a NW to SE destabilisation. It's clear from current radar and sferics that isolated storms are likely to affect Lincs, Cambs, EA etc as the evening and night progresses.

Good you're getting some storm action Caz.  Looks very ominous now looking in your direction from here.

Still no rain though Andy but the sky is a lovely shade of thunder!   I'd be surprised if you don't get something because there seems to be a movement in your direction.  Good luck!
