A dry start to July here - even tho' it's rained on most days so far! Just 1mm total: 0.3mm on the 1st, 0.6mm on the 2nd, 0.1mm on the 3rd and a trace yesterday. We'll see if Thor's Day will produce any thunder or some useful rainfall for this area - going by GFS we should get around 10 - 15mm ... could be a whole lot more, or on current form, a whole lot less!

And so it was! Still on 1mm and the foreseable looks like a continuation of dribs and drabs for this area - should keep the lawns happy but I'll have to keep watering the veg patches and borders and keep an eye on the more deeply-rooted fruit trees for signs of drought stress on this hill of sand!

35.4 mm reported at High Mowthorpe on the Yorkshire Wolds near Malton yesterday - presumably a MetO site at the ADAS station there.

Hi John! From a very warm, dry and sunny Folkestone. Given the lack of real rain around here in what has been quite a while now with little forecast for Kent in the medium range outputs and looking at my now totally brown lawn, I'm surprised I've come across very little mention in the way of water restrictions. Given how towns are expanding rapidly thus putting extra strain on the water infrastructure, by rights we should be in a drought situation by now. Perhaps because water meters being effective in making everyone being careful about water usage?

Hi, Ian! Water meters sure help! It encouraged us to use water butts here and we're careful with water usage, as with other utilities, because we know we're paying for it lol!

Up here it's a deceptive drought inmby because we keep getting small amounts keeping the surface green but down below it's dry. Most of Cheshire is on sand or gravel which doesn't help.
