BBC monthly outlook
Monday 10 April—Sunday 16 April
Chill in the air in lead up to Easter
We look to the north for our air this week. A short burst of Arctic air on Monday, and then a longer spell of that air later this week. So after a warm weekend, especially over England and Wales, we will all notice a drop in temperatures. There will also be a more unsettled spell of weather, especially over more northern parts of the British Isles, with stronger winds and outbreaks of rain. The heaviest rain will be on Tuesday across the north and west of Scotland. England and Wales will maintain a lot of dry, bright weather during the week but becoming breezy here too and feeling noticeably cooler. This cooler air looks set to remain in place into the Easter weekend, with temperatures some ten degrees Celsius lower than the previous weekend. However, there will still be some drier weather with sunny spells, but also brief periods of showers or longest spells of rain. These showers most likely in the north with snow on the hills.
Monday 17 April—Sunday 23 April
Beginning to warm up again
Cool, rather changeable conditions are expected on Easter Monday with the driest, brightest weather likely to be over southern England and south Wales. As we go through next week, there will be further showers or longer spells of rain affecting northern parts of the British Isles, with showers falling as snow over the hills. High pressure looks set to remain close to southwest England, maintaining a lot of dry weather across the country and only brief unsettled interludes, these most likely in the north. Winds will start off from a cool northwesterly direction, but towards the end of the week we begin to see milder air crossing the country with a rise in temperatures.
Monday 24 April—Sunday 7 May
High staying close by
April looks set to finish with high pressure never too far away from the British Isles. This means a lot of dry weather to end the month, resulting in a much drier than average April for many areas. There will be some short lived, more unsettled periods of weather with outbreaks of rain and stronger winds coming in from the Atlantic, mostly affecting Northern Ireland as well as the north and west of Scotland. Temperatures are expected to be close to normal for the end of April, with frosts likely in more rural locations. At this stage, a similar scenario is expected to persist into early May. There are signs of milder air returning to the UK, with higher daytime and overnight temperatures.
Next week
When do we see a change to more unsettled weather?
