BBC monthly outlook

Monday 3 April—Sunday 9 April
April starting on a High

We will see cloudy skies, outbreaks of rain and stronger winds on Monday across more northern and western parts of the UK. Rain will come south across England and Wales later on Monday and into Tuesday. However, it will ease away and a much more settled conditions will continue for the rest of the week. High pressure is expected to build across the country bringing dry, settled weather to most places, but northern Scotland will keep stronger winds, cloudier skies and a few showers. The rest of the UK will have lighter winds and daytime temperatures will be on the mild side, even warm across some eastern areas. Clear skies at night along with lighter winds will mean a risk of frost in more rural parts and also some patchy fog. High pressure will persist in the south over the weekend, but low pressure approaching northern Scotland will bring stronger winds and some outbreaks of rain.

Monday 10 April—Sunday 16 April
Do not pack away your winter woolies just yet

We will see a change in the weather as we head towards the middle of April. Areas of low pressure are expected to pass close to northern Scotland bringing outbreaks of rain and stronger winds. These conditions will extend southwards during the week. We will also see winds coming in from a northwesterly direction introducing much colder conditions than of late. The showers in the north will turn to snow on the hills with even the possibility of snow to lower levels across northern Scotland. High pressure will never be far away from southeast England keeping a lot of dry weather here. This comes after a dry March across the Southeast and some rain would have been welcome.

Monday 17 April—Sunday 30 April
The high fights back....

Indications for the second half of April are for the high pressure which will be close to southeast England to gradually extend northwards once again. There will be further outbreaks of rain in the north at first with snow on the hills along with a colder wind. Drier, brighter conditions are likely to dominate across the south and look set to extend northwards to most areas as we head towards the end of April. Daytime temperatures are expected to be on the warm side but still some chilly nights with patchy frost possible in more rural locations.

Next week

Will the start of May bring some warm sunny weather? Watch this space....

Met office update

UK Outlook for Saturday 8 Apr 2017 to Monday 17 Apr 2017:

A fine and dry start to the weekend is most likely with some sunny spells and temperatures above-average. These fine conditions will probably be slowly replaced by cloud and outbreaks of rain spreading into the north-west through Sunday, with cooler conditions to follow, and strengthening winds further north. There is some uncertainty but the favoured scenario next week is for cloud and outbreaks of rain to push further south across the UK, turning colder and showery. Heavier showers and snow are possible in the far north, while the south could be drier but still with a chance of rain; generally becoming windier through the period. This colder spell is unlikely to last long as a return of milder Atlantic air is expected to re-establish itself later in the period.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 18 Apr 2017 to Tuesday 2 May 2017:

There are some signals for blocked or slow moving weather patterns to affect the UK through the second half of April. This gives a slight bias towards settled, relatively dry weather to become more dominant later in the month with above-average temperatures more likely with this scenario. However there is low confidence for this synoptic setup.

Met office update

UK Outlook for Sunday 9 Apr 2017 to Tuesday 18 Apr 2017:

High pressure is likely to dominate south-eastern parts of the UK during the start of the period with continuing dry and fine conditions by day and chilly nights leading to early fog patches. In contrast, the north-west could be increasingly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and strengthening winds. These more unsettled and cooler conditions are likely to spread slowly across the UK but with some uncertainty as to timings. Through mid week we are likely to see quite unsettled, and at times windier weather with bands of rain or showers perhaps affecting all parts for a time, with some brief drier interludes likely. The end of the period is very uncertain but milder conditions from the Atlantic may return, leading to temperatures recovering.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 19 Apr 2017 to Wednesday 3 May 2017:

There are some signals for blocked or slow moving weather patterns to affect the UK through the latter part of April. This gives a slight bias towards settled, relatively dry weather to become more dominant later in the month with above-average temperatures more likely with this scenario. However there is low confidence for this synoptic setup.

UK Outlook for Monday 10 Apr 2017 to Wednesday 19 Apr 2017:

More unsettled and cooler conditions are likely to spread slowly across the UK through the early part of the week, but with some uncertainty as to timings. Showery rain may still be clearing south-eastern counties at first but elsewhere there will be a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers to begin with. More persistent rain may spread eastwards through Tuesday, though south-eastern parts may well stay dry. Through mid week we are likely to see quite unsettled, and at times windier weather with bands of rain or showers perhaps affecting northern areas, with more in the way of drier conditions in the south. The end of the period is very uncertain but milder conditions from the Atlantic may return, leading to temperatures recovering.

UK Outlook for Thursday 20 Apr 2017 to Thursday 4 May 2017:

There are some signals for blocked or slow moving weather patterns to affect the UK through the latter part of April and into May. This gives a slight bias towards settled, relatively dry weather to become more dominant later in the month with above-average temperatures more likely with this scenario. However there is low confidence for this synoptic setup.

I was watching Gav's weather videos - it was the warmest March in 60 years and back in the beginning of the month - following my last post here) - I do recall Gav saying he would be really surprised if we went through the whole of March without any colder interludes or cooler spells and to be frank we haven't had any cooler spells let alone colder weather - early next week it will feel colder but these are average temperatures. I wonder how many above average months will continue? - So far we have had four months of above average temperatures.

Fantastic start to spring - one day of April showers on 1st April then that's it and this weekends looks like a stunner. - long may this continue.

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/reports/week-ahead.htm

Reading the week ahead by Simon Keeling - it looks like it may well turn colder early to the middle part of next week with rain or wintry showers for the north but yet again no rain for the south - I wonder if the south and especially the SE could be in for a drought this summer?

UK Outlook for Thursday 13 Apr 2017 to Saturday 22 Apr 2017:

Thursday is likely to be mostly dry across the south, but it is likely to be cloudier in the north with some showers or more persistent rain. Over the Easter weekend, we are likely to see a mixture of weather with some settled spells, but also some bands of rain or showers, turning wintry over northern hills. The best of the dry and bright weather is most probable in the south and south-west, although unsettled conditions become more generally widespread later in the weekend. Temperatures are likely to be around average in the north and warm in the south at first, but turning colder through the weekend. The week after Easter is looking rather cold and changeable with night frosts at times but also some bright weather too.

UK Outlook for Sunday 23 Apr 2017 to Sunday 7 May 2017:

There is low confidence through this period, but a mixture of weather is likely at first, with some short, changeable interludes and some more settled spells too. Colder than average temperatures for the time of year are probable at first. However, there is a slight bias towards settled, relatively dry weather becoming more dominant later in the period with above-average temperatures more likely to accompany this scenario.

TBH, no worse than the BBC/met office winter LRF efforts....which were also a discrace and if they consumed a large amount of financial resources of public funds then they should cease!

At least with these joke of newspapers...we don't have to buy it!
