UK Outlook for Thursday 16 Mar 2017 to Saturday 25 Mar 2017:

High pressure looks set to bring largely settled conditions at first across the south, where we will see a greater chance of some sunshine. In the north, more unsettled weather is likely with stronger winds, thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain. Milder conditions will continue across the south, but perhaps turning colder at times in the north with patchy overnight frosts possible. Towards the end of next week, there is an increasing chance of unsettled conditions pushing into the south at times, with brief spells of wet and windy weather possible. Confidence is currently low for the rest of the period. However, there is likely to be some settled weather with wet and windy interludes at times, mainly in the north, where some snow is possible too.

UK Outlook for Sunday 26 Mar 2017 to Sunday 9 Apr 2017:

By late March and into early April, there are currently signals for a slightly increased chance of a blocked pattern for the UK weather. This means there are signs for generally drier than average conditions and more settled than average weather across the country, particularly in the northwest. However, there is still the potential for showers and longer spells of rain on occasion, more likely in the south. Details of temperatures are very uncertain, but temperatures generally look to be around average for the time of year.

Just watching Gav's Winter 2016/17 Forecast Verification (11/03/17) - I would like to share this with you and I couldn't agree more. Also It's frustrating as hell. Not to mention seeing Gav spend so much time in his analysis and forecasts and all the ensembles updates etc etc from September - only to find that it's turned out very mild and dry with no NOTABLE cold snowy spell, even when we had a SSW or SW end of Jan and beginning of Feb. I've followed his videos since September when he released the update on Siberian snow cover - SO informative yet so frustrating in the end. Models can never be relied upon. Also I notice that there is a nor-easter on the eastern Seaboard bringing blizzards in a couple days time - yet last week they had +20c.

Then coming back to our boring climate of nothingness going on.

Hope we have weather next winter - maybe something noteworthy or eventful.

PS - Still waiting for the bitterly cold weather with -12c and snow and cold to last until march that the Express were predicting a few days ago and the Met office talking about the chance a prolonged cold spell with snow in places. Opps! I think they meant a chance of a prolonged unseasonably warm and dry spell?!

UK Outlook for Friday 17 Mar 2017 to Sunday 26 Mar 2017:

Widely unsettled conditions are likely as we head into next weekend, and persisting into the middle of next week, with bands of cloud, rain and rather windy weather crossing the country. Gales are possible, especially in the north where some snow is possible over high ground. Between bands of rain, interludes of drier, clearer and colder weather are expected. Temperatures will probably be around normal, but are likely to swing between above and below average with the passage of weather systems. Frost is therefore possible in colder spells, especially in the north. Confidence is currently low through the second half of the period. However, there is likely to be some settled weather with wet and windy interludes at times, mainly in the north, where some further snow remains possible too.

UK Outlook for Monday 27 Mar 2017 to Monday 10 Apr 2017:

By late March and into early April, there are currently signals for a slightly increased chance of a blocked pattern for the UK weather. This means there are signs for generally drier than average conditions and more settled than average weather across the country. However, there is still the potential for showers and longer spells of rain on occasion. Temperatures generally look to be around average for the time of year.

According to BBC it looks like a blustery week to come for Scotland. Light bands of rain with sunny spells 9 to 11 C so nothing overly mild up here and set to turn colder later!

London and south-East hardly any rain and mostly bright 13 to 16 C

Usual big differences over our small country!

Monthly Outlook

Summary
Is Spring finally showing its hand?
This past week has started to feel for many like Spring has finally arrived. We saw the dizzy heights of 18 Celsius on Saturday in Gravesend, Kent and similarly Northern Ireland saw their warmest day of the year so far courtesy of a 16 Celsius recorded at Giant's Causeway in Antrim. So, the big question is will this warning up trend continue or was it simply a tease of what Spring could be like?

Monday 13 March—Sunday 19 March

The North-South split returns.

The coming week can broadly be described by a north - south split. High pressure is likely to be dominant in the south which will bring a lot of dry weather and light winds. But, as is often the case, dry weather doesn't often mean sunny weather and this week is a perfect example of that with often cloudy skies. Low pressure will tend to have a greater influence further north with spells of rain crossing the country west to east. It's also likely to be pretty windy at times, especially so on Tuesday and Thursday.

Monday 20 March—Sunday 26 March

No big changes for the end of March.

As we head towards the end of the month although there are not expected to be any big changes in the weather picture there will be some subtle tweaks. The first of those is in the south; at the start of this period the drier conditions are likely to persist but it is increasingly likely that wet weather will start to push southwards with some spells of rain for all. Northern parts are likely to continue on a similar theme to mid-March with further bouts of unsettled weather, and over the hills in Scotland there could be some further snowfall.

Monday 27 March—Sunday 9 April

What does April have in store?

Though confidence decreases as we look further ahead into April the most dominant signal at this stage is for weather systems to continue to move in from the Atlantic to the UK. However, it is likely that they will become more spaced out giving longer periods of drier, brighter weather in between. The bulk of the wet weather will be for the northern half of the UK with driest conditions further south, and given the set-up temperatures are expected to be around the seasonal norm.

UK Outlook for Sunday 19 Mar 2017 to Tuesday 28 Mar 2017:

There is high confidence for unsettled weather by the end of the weekend with frontal systems bringing bands of rain and cloud interspersed with brighter showery conditions. Heavy rain and stronger winds are likely at times, especially in north-western areas, with snow probable over higher ground in the north. Feeling quite mild, especially in the south. Further ahead we are likely to see unsettled conditions still in place with some good spells of brighter, showery weather at times. The likelihood of seeing drier and more settled weather towards the end of March increases with the development of high pressure. If this is the case we could however see more overnight frosts and daytime temperatures returning to average, or perhaps a little on the chilly side.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 29 Mar 2017 to Wednesday 12 Apr 2017:

By late March into early April there are some signals for a blocked pattern to bring more settled conditions to the UK. This would mean a period of drier than average weather, especially for north-western areas but with changeable interludes at times. However, there is an increased risk of overnight frosts, with temperatures by day around or above-average, but confidence for this scenario is low.

UK Outlook for Monday 20 Mar 2017 to Wednesday 29 Mar 2017:

After an unsettled weekend it is likely to remain quite changeable through the early part of next week with bands of rain and showery, brighter periods. Brighter conditions are most likely in the north, where it may feel a little cooler with some snow over the hills here. In contrast, the south looks like it could be somewhat milder but cloudier. Through the week the brighter, breezier conditions could spread to all areas with temperatures returning back to average; after which a period of drier and quieter weather may establish itself. Towards the end of March high pressure is likely to largely dominate the UK; feeling colder and increasing the chances of some overnight frosts. However, further frontal zones may still bring rain and stronger winds mainly to the north.

UK Outlook for Thursday 30 Mar 2017 to Thursday 13 Apr 2017:

There is a large degree of uncertainty as we look ahead to early April, but there are weak signals for blocked, slow moving weather patterns to remain established over the UK. Overall, drier conditions are slightly more probable along with milder-than-average temperatures; however the confidence for this is low. In this settled scenario, we should expect to see some chillier nights with the risk of overnight frost quite probable for this time of year.

Storm Stella is causing a lot of confusion. My understanding is it has been named by NOAA / NCEP. A lot of people on social media think it has been named by the UK Met Office. The whole situation is utterly farcical.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 21 Mar 2017 to Thursday 30 Mar 2017:

It will remain changeable through the first part of this outlook with the north seeing spells of rain, interspersed with brighter and more showery conditions. These showers may at times be wintry with some snow over the hills. In contrast, the south is likely to see cloudier but milder weather with some patchy rain and drizzle. All parts are likely to see strong winds with a risk of gales, particularly in the north. The brighter, colder and more showery conditions are then likely to spread to all parts for a time, before high pressure then builds towards the end of March. This will bring more settled but colder conditions to many with a greater risk of overnight frosts. Despite this, wet and windy weather may continue in the far north.

UK Outlook for Friday 31 Mar 2017 to Friday 14 Apr 2017:

As we look ahead into the start of April there is a greater degree of uncertainty regarding how the forecast evolves. However, compared to normal there is on balance a greater chance that high pressure will remain close to or over the UK, bringing drier conditions than would normally be expected. If this is the case it is likely that we will see a greater spread in temperatures from day to night, with the risk of overnight frosts continuing for some. However, there is a small chance that some wetter and windier weather will push across the UK at times too.

What if it say the storm reinvigorated across the Atlantic and hit the UK, what happens then? Storm Fleur Stella?!
