It was not 'named' by NOAA but by The Weather Channel and I agree, it's a total farce as is the whole storm naming thing.

Met office update

UK Outlook for Wednesday 22 Mar 2017 to Friday 31 Mar 2017:

Most areas are likely to see colder conditions through this period, with sunny spells and showers. Showers will fall as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow, snow particularly frequent over higher ground in the north. Some southern areas may see less cold, but cloudier weather though, with a chance of rain at times, particularly early on in the period. It's likely to become more generally settled towards the end of March with lighter winds, and with this an increasing chance of overnight frost and fog. Marked variations between daytime and overnight temperatures are also probable. Stronger winds and outbreaks of rain are possible at times however, both in the far north and far south. These conditions looks more likely than not to persist to the end of the period.

UK Outlook for Saturday 1 Apr 2017 to Saturday 15 Apr 2017:

For the start of April, compared to average, there is on balance a greater chance that high pressure will remain close to or over the UK. This will bring drier conditions than would normally be expected, especially in the west. If this is the case it is likely that we will see a greater spread in temperatures from day to night, with the risk of overnight frosts continuing for some.

No, it was named by The Weather Channel.  As a gimmick.

There is no official naming of storms in the US

And in any case it soon after ceased to exist.

However the British Isles have been affected by a low presure system near Iceland.  With resultant weather that is as unusual as discovering a mouse in a mouse trap in a mouse infested cellar.   But didnt warrant an amber weather warning.   So hasnt been named by Met Eirean or the MetO.

As I am sure you are well aware!

BBC monthly outlook

Sunday 19 March—Sunday 26 March
The last throes of winter?

After a mild weekend, particularly in the south, we will see a switch to some colder but potentially brighter weather early in the week. We are likely to see some snow, particularly over the hills, with some widespread overnight frosts. As the week progresses there will be some more unsettled, wet weather with temperatures recovering slightly. But, later in the week we may see high pressure toppling in. It's the north that will benefit the most with drier weather but the added risk of some overnight temperatures plummeting.

Sunday 26 March—Sunday 2 April
High pressure a flash in the pan?

Settled weather will probably continue in the north at first, with damper weather in southern counties. This later spreading further north with a return to more normal, westerly prevailing conditions and some wet and windy weather likely at times. There are some weak signals that the high pressure may dig in its heels and continue to dominate the pattern, meaning a low probability of further settled weather.

Sunday 2 April—Sunday 9 April
What does April have in store?

Signals are weak, but the favoured scenario is for a more settled start to April with blocked weather patterns most likely bringing drier than average weather to the UK. This could all change though, depending on how stubborn any high pressure behaves in the run up to April.

Next week

With some cold and wintry weather at the start of the week, will we see spring establish itself after the equinox? Check here for updates!

UK Outlook for Saturday 25 Mar 2017 to Monday 3 Apr 2017:

We will see predominantly settled conditions over the weekend as high pressure dominates over the UK, bringing fine and dry weather for the most part. It will be rather warm by day, though there will be widespread overnight frosts and early morning fog for some too. A stiff, rather chilly north-easterly wind may affect the south. Into next week, we are likely to see a gradual return to more unsettled weather, although there will still be some dry spells, especially at first. Eastern counties are likely to see the best of any dry weather, whilst western parts are set to see the most unsettled weather. High pressure may re-assert itself later in the week, resulting in mostly settled conditions, although brief spells of wet and windy weather are possible too.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 4 Apr 2017 to Tuesday 18 Apr 2017:

Early April looks likely to see high pressure remaining close to or over the UK for the most part. This will bring drier and somewhat warmer conditions than normal for the time of year. If this is the case it is likely that we will see a greater spread in temperatures from day to night, with the risk of overnight frosts continuing for some. However, there may be bouts of unsettled weather at times too, though these will probably be short-lived.

UK Outlook for Sunday 26 Mar 2017 to Tuesday 4 Apr 2017:

Sunday and Monday are expected to be fine and dry for all as high pressure dominates. Most places will become rather warm by day, though there will be overnight frosts and early morning fog for some. However, a stiff, rather chilly north-easterly wind may affect the south at first. It will stay mainly dry, fine and settled throughout next week. Eastern counties are likely to see the best of the dry weather, whilst the far west may increasingly see cloudier wetter weather at times, accompanied by stronger winds. Temperatures will stay generally rather warm, and frosts are less likely later in the week. The start of April will probably stay mainly dry and settled, though there is an increased chance of some unsettled spells, mainly in the north-west.

Sounds good to me Gavin, though I'm always wary of early spring warmth for any length of time as it generally doesn't bode well for the following summer.

Maybe this summer will break he trend, the law of avceages dictates we're due a good summer............. But then those same averages say the same about winter. 😕
