UK Outlook for Wednesday 22 Feb 2017 to Friday 3 Mar 2017:

As we head through the end of February and into March, it's likely that we'll see mild and unsettled conditions continuing as we look to the Atlantic as the main influence on the weather. Bands of rain will move east, interspersed with brief colder, brighter and showery interludes with a risk of snow in the north. It will be breezy for many, with the strongest winds likely across the north and west, where there may be gales at times. The driest conditions will often be in the southeast. In any lighter winds between weather systems though, there will be a chance of overnight frost and fog. Overall, temperatures will most likely be above average for mid to late February, however in the strong winds, it'll feel colder at times.

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Mar 2017 to Saturday 18 Mar 2017:

For early March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow expected in the north. There will however also be some drier and brighter spells; particularly in the south and east where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be a little above normal for the time of year but there remains a small chance of seeing a more prolonged cold spell, which is most probable later in the period.

The Met have been toying with this 'prolonged cold spell' on and off throughout this winter. - I do wonder how long they mean!? - Do they actually mean a colder/drier snap like last week and January - lasting a few days? - Just they keep stressing 'prolonged'?

UK Outlook for Thursday 23 Feb 2017 to Saturday 4 Mar 2017:

A changeable and quite mobile weather pattern is most likely as we head towards March. Wind and rain is expected to move across the UK on Thursday, followed by a brighter, colder, more showery but still windy day on Friday. A frosty start is expected on Saturday but during that weekend another band of wind and rain is expected to move in. However, the south and east of the UK should see the best of any dry and bright weather. Although cold at first, temperatures show signs of edging upwards again as we move through Sunday and into the following week. Weather-wise, a recurring pattern of bands of rain followed by brighter, more showery days is most likely.

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Mar 2017 to Sunday 19 Mar 2017:

For early March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow possible across the north of the UK. There will, however, also be some drier and brighter spells, particularly in the south and east where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be a little above normal for the time of year but there remains a small chance of seeing a more prolonged cold spell, which is most probable later in the period.

Well the signal (albeit low) for a cold mid-March must still be there as it's been a persistent phrase recently.

They've hardly updated the longer range since Tuesday or Wednesday we need to wait for the next proper update on it to see if it remains

UK Outlook for Friday 24 Feb 2017 to Sunday 5 Mar 2017:

Plenty of dry and sunny weather is expected on Friday, with one or two showers, but it will feel cold. Wind and rain is then likely to spread in from the west later and last through Saturday but it will be accompanied by milder air. Changeable and mild weather is likely to continue through the rest of that weekend and into the following week, with wet and windy conditions affecting the north and west of the UK the most. The south and east should see the best of any drier and brighter weather. However, there will generally be brighter, cooler, more showery days in-between weather systems. This changeable pattern is currently expected to continue as we head into March.

UK Outlook for Monday 6 Mar 2017 to Monday 20 Mar 2017:

For March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled at first. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow possible across the north of the UK. BBC monthly outlook

Monday 20 February—Sunday 5 March
A mild start but a cold finish!

We start off the new working week on an exceptionally mild night, in fact the mildest night of the year so far for most of the UK. It will be a very windy day across the northern half of the UK with outbreaks of rain in the northwest. The rest of the UK will be fairly cloudy and there will be patchy rain across Wales and southwest England. However, eastern parts of England will see good breaks in the cloud, and in the sunshine a few spots could get up to 17C. In general though, it will be a mild day with temperatures widely reaching 14C.

On Tuesday, there will be further rain and strong winds across Scotland and it will be a colder day here. It will be a windy day too with Northern Ireland and northern England with showery rain. Breezy elsewhere with rain on and off through the day. Wednesday marks a shift to colder weather as a front sweeps across the country introducing much colder air and it will feel quite wintry again. There will be gales or severe gales in the north and east and it will be windy elsewhere. As we approach the end of the week, we see a deep area of low pressure speed through bringing strong winds and rain and we end the week on a cold but drier note, about 7 degrees colder than we started the week!

Sunday 12 February—Sunday 19 March
Day on day changes.

As we head into meteorological spring, the Atlantic comes to life again and we see rain and strong winds pushing through. The general signal is for the strongest of the winds to push into the far northwest of the UK. Temperature wise it looks very similar to this week, and we will see a wide variety of temperatures. That's nothing unusual for this time of year but none the less day on day changes as a mobile pattern continues to be signalled. There are suggestions in some of the computer models that we could see a spell of heavy rain with the possibility of further snow showers across the high ground of northern England and Scotland.

Sunday 19 March—Sunday 2 April
Looking further ahead.

As we head into March the climate computer models suggest that we are unlikely to see anything out of the ordinary for this time of year. There is the continued risk of having temperatures cold enough for some snow showers across northern England and Scotland and for some overnight frosts. However the frequency of frosts occurring further south will be less likely. There is however a small cluster of computer models that hint at a more prolonged cold spell, which is most probable later and should it occur is likely to be dry and cold.

Next week

Find out how meteorological and astronomical spring are shaping up.

Met office update

UK Outlook for Saturday 25 Feb 2017 to Monday 6 Mar 2017:

Late February and early March look generally mild, changeable and at times unsettled, with Atlantic depressions pushing across the UK. This means spells of rain, some of which could be heavy across high ground in the north and west, and accompanied by windy conditions, perhaps with gales at times, again more likely in the north and west. Showers in between these Atlantic systems could be wintry over northern hills. Some wind and rain is likely for the south and east too, though with more prolonged spells of drier and brighter weather in-between. Throughout this period there remains a lower chance that high pressure centred to the southwest of the UK may become more dominant and this would mean rather more settled conditions establishing themselves, with some overnight frost.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 7 Mar 2017 to Tuesday 21 Mar 2017:

For March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled at first. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow possible across the north of the UK. There will, however, also be some drier and brighter spells, particularly in the south and east where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be a little above normal for the time of year but there remains a small chance of seeing a more prolonged cold spell, which is most probable later in the period, particularly if settled conditions develop more widely.

MetO not buying the 'final fling' idea being pedalled by a minority of output this last week.
It would be wise to heed there interpretation as they've been pretty decent this season with the longer range. The wait to use the dusty sledge extends into a fifth year here.
