As you said for the low a week or so ago, the very cold airmass interacting with a -what? -15C Med?- creates an interesting thermal contrast. So 4 lows have formed like this since the really cold air got entrenched over S. Europe. Some models are projecting a lessening of the cold in this region over the next 15 days but all of these are bathed in uncertainty. Could be we can expect more than usual opportunities through the rest of January. Hope so.

Regardless of whether it tries for medicane status or not, that's a nice looking low west of the Balearic Isles today. Makes me think of spring and summer thunder - of which there has been such a horrendous scarcity here in the past decade

An eye-like feature is now evident as it rolls west just south of the Balearic Isles. I've not seen a medicane in that area before so if it is one or gets there at some point it'll be quite the event.

I doubt many would associate with blizzards but that's what they got down in the Murcia region!
