UK Outlook for Thursday 18 May 2017 to Saturday 27 May 2017:

Brighter, showery and fresher conditions in the north will spread to all parts during Thursday, with the exception of the far southeast, where it will stay rather warm and humid, with perhaps some thunderstorms, particularly at first. Friday and Saturday will generally see a mixture of sunshine and showers, most frequent and heaviest in the north, whilst many southern parts will stay largely fine and dry throughout. A southwest/northeast split in the weather is likely from Sunday to Tuesday, with the south and west seeing more in the way of dry and settled weather, whilst the north and east stay unsettled. Thereafter, we are likely to see a good deal of dry and fine weather developing for most.

UK Outlook for Sunday 28 May 2017 to Sunday 11 Jun 2017:

There is likely to be a good deal of dry and fine weather for the start of this period. Thereafter, signals become much weaker for conditions into the start of June, with equal probabilities of settled and unsettled weather dominating across the United Kingdom. Generally, there is likely to be a mixed spell of weather, with rain or showers for most, interspersed with drier conditions. Temperatures are likely to be near the average to rather warm, perhaps very warm at times, particularly in the south if a southerly airflow develops.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 15 May—Sunday 21 May
The rain returns.

On Monday we will start to see a change to more unsettled weather after a largely dry start to May. Bands of rain from the Atlantic will push across much of the UK with some heavy downpours particularly over higher ground, while remaining quite humid. The north west will remain generally wetter and windier, however heavy rain will also reach the southeast through mid-week. Somewhat fresher weather arrives by the weekend with a mixture of sunshine and blustery showers.

Monday 22 May—Sunday 28 May
A quieter spell on the way?

After an unsettled weekend high pressure looks likely to build over the UK, perhaps bringing a spell of quieter and more settled weather for a time. There are weaker signals for the weekend's showery weather to continue, but this scenario remains a low probability at this stage.

Monday 29 May—Sunday 4 June
High pressure returns?

As we head towards the end of May and the start of meteorological summer the best estimate is for a mixed spell of weather with occasional rain or showers in some areas interspersed with drier conditions. Temperatures are likely to be around average to rather warm, especially where any sunnier regimes develop. However, there is a large degree of uncertainty to the forecast by this stage.

Looking further ahead towards June and the start of meteorological summer what will the weather have in store?

Met office update

UK Outlook for Saturday 20 May 2017 to Monday 29 May 2017:

This weekend is likely to see a mixture of sunshine and showers although there is a slight risk of a longer spell of rain. Winds will generally be fairly light and temperatures will be around average, although it should feel fairly warm in any sunnier spells. Thereafter, confidence is low, but it is likely that the start of next week will remain showery, especially through Tuesday. Showers should become fewer and lighter through the week, with increasing amounts of dry and sunny weather by Thursday. Winds will remain fairly light with temperatures close to or just above average, but again feeling warm in any sunshine. By the end of the period, it is most likely to be dry, fine and rather warm but still with a chance of showery conditions.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 30 May 2017 to Tuesday 13 Jun 2017:

There is likely to be a good deal of dry and fine weather for the start of this period. Thereafter, signals become much weaker for conditions into the start of June, with equal probabilities of settled and unsettled weather dominating across the United Kingdom. Generally, there is likely to be a mixed spell of weather, with rain or showers for most, interspersed with drier conditions. UK Outlook for Sunday 21 May 2017 to Tuesday 30 May 2017:

The start of next week is likely to be dominated by sunshine and showers with the odd longer spell of rain possible for some. Some showers could be thundery, especially in the southeast. Temperatures will be near average to rather warm in any longer sunny spells, with chilly nights. Thereafter, confidence is low, but showers should become fewer and lighter through the week, with increasing amounts of dry and sunny weather possible. Winds will remain fairly light with temperatures close to or just above average, but again feeling warm in any sunshine. As we head into the Bank Holiday weekend and thereafter a trend to more unsettled conditions is most probable. Showers or longer spells of rain and perhaps coastal gales are likely to move across the country.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 31 May 2017 to Wednesday 14 Jun 2017:

Signals become much weaker for conditions as we head into the start of June, with equal probabilities of settled and unsettled weather dominating across the United Kingdom. Therefore confidence for this period is rather low. Generally, there is likely to be a mixed spell of weather with rain or showers at times, most likely in the north and west, interspersed with drier conditions, these more likely later. Temperatures are likely to be near the average to rather warm, perhaps very warm at times, particularly in the south later if a southerly airflow develops.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 23 May 2017 to Thursday 1 Jun 2017:

This period is likely to start on a changeable note with sunshine and showers for many, some of which could be heavy and thundery. However, it should begin to turn more settled for a time from the west, gradually bringing drier and brighter weather across the UK, although there remains some uncertainty over how quickly this change will take place. Thereafter, confidence remains low but it looks like the end of May will see a return to more unsettled weather with showers or longer spells of rain and stronger winds and perhaps coastal gales. Temperatures are likely to be close to or slightly warmer than average especially in any settled and sunnier spells, though with some cooler nights.

UK Outlook for Friday 2 Jun 2017 to Friday 16 Jun 2017:

Confidence in the forecast becomes very low as we head into June, but after an unsettled start on balance it looks like fairly settled conditions will return. This will bring mostly dry and sunny conditions with lighter winds, although there remains the risk of some spells of rain or showers. Temperatures are likely to be near average or rather warm, especially in any sunnier spells and particularly towards the middle of June. However, this may bring the risk of some thundery showers, mainly in the south or southeast of the country.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 24 May 2017 to Friday 2 Jun 2017:

High pressure will lead to mainly dry and bright weather on Wednesday, though some showery rain is possible across the far north of the UK. It is set to stay mainly dry and settled through the end of the next week, with some warm sunshine developing at times. However, it may well become more unsettled later in the Bank Holiday Weekend and into the beginning of June with showers or longer spells of rain, perhaps accompanied by coastal gales in the west later. The best of any drier and brighter weather is most likely in the east or southeast. Temperatures are likely to be near average for the time of year, but becoming warm in any sunshine that develops.

UK Outlook for Saturday 3 Jun 2017 to Saturday 17 Jun 2017:

Confidence in the forecast is low as we head though the first half of June, but after an unsettled start on balance it looks like fairly settled conditions will return.

The generally dry and warm spell should last into the start of the Bank Holiday weekend, however later and thereafter through the beginning of June conditions are likely to turn more unsettled. This will bring a greater risk of showery rain and stronger winds over many parts with the strongest winds perhaps across the west and southwest. Temperatures will return closer to normal by the end of the month, although in any sunshine it will still become rather warm.

UK Outlook for Sunday 4 Jun 2017 to Sunday 18 Jun 2017:

Confidence in the forecast remains lows as we head into June, but on balance the first full week of June looks set to remain unsettled giving a greater risk of showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed with some drier and brighter weather. So this means the opposite - 100 day soaking wet weather with cool westerly winds and outbreaks of heavy rain with localised flooding!

We are starting to see the change to a more unsettled pattern already.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 22 May—Sunday 28 May
An early taste of summer!

The week will begin on a rather cloudy note across Northern Ireland and Scotland, as a weak Atlantic weather front moves north and east across the respective countries, bringing some rain at times through Monday. Elsewhere though, a bright day is in store with some good spells of sunshine allowing temperatures to climb into the low twenties, with a high of around 25 Celsius likely across parts of southeast England.

Overnight into Tuesday, skies will be largely clear, allowing a few patches of fog to form in rural locations. Tuesday will bring another (albeit weaker) weather front to some northwestern areas of the UK through the day, and some cloudier skies to western and southwestern coastal areas at times, but conditions further east will again be warm and bright for much of the time.

By midweek, an anticyclone will be centered right over the UK, ensuring that the majority of the UK see plenty of dry and bright weather, and it will feel very warm in any afternoon sunshine. The possible exception will be some western coastal parts that will be a little cloudier at times. Thursday and Friday will likely be the warmest days of the week, with temperatures reaching the highest values since the warm spell of last September. Highs into the high twenties of Celsius are probable across central and eastern parts.

As we move into the Bank Holiday weekend, considerable uncertainty starts to creep into the forecast. At time of writing, the main computer forecasting models were struggling to reach a consensus on the behavior of an Atlantic low that is likely to slowly drift in from the southwest to bring showers at times and also a transition to less warm conditions. The speed at which this transition occurs remains in doubt, but it does look as if weather conditions through the weekend will gradually tend to become more unsettled. Watch this space!

Monday 29 May—Sunday 4 June
Not so flaming June.

The uncertainty in the forecast for the Bank Holiday weekend does spill over into the last few days of May. That said, the latest estimates using the array of forecasting tools and models at our disposal suggest that although the Bank Holiday week will likely begin on a warm note, the aforementioned Atlantic low will eventually clear away to the east, leaving much of the UK in a showery regime, with a generally fresher feeling westerly wind. To that effect, it is looking likely that the first few days of June (and the climatological summer) will begin on a fairly unsettled note, with northwestern areas experiencing the wettest and windiest conditions. Conversely though, southeastern areas will likely be drier for longer periods, with generally less showers.

Monday 5 June—Sunday 18 June
Turning a little warmer and drier again?

As we move into he middle part of June, there is still a relatively large degree of uncertainty in the forecast detail, even for a longer range forecast. However, the latest available information does suggest that the jet stream will begin to realign to allow pressure to build in the vicinity of the UK again. Such a scenario would permit a good deal of dry weather, and temperatures at around average or just above for the time of year.

UK Outlook for Saturday 27 May 2017 to Monday 5 Jun 2017:

The sunny and very warm or hot conditions are likely to hold on in many eastern and south-eastern parts during the Bank Holiday weekend. However, we will already begin to see a thundery breakdown pushing in across northern and western parts during Saturday. Perhaps turning fresher, with drier and brighter weather moving into western parts on Sunday and Monday. A brief settled spell of weather is likely to follow, before we see unsettled conditions developing into the first week of June, with a mixture of sunshine and showers or longer spells of rain with strong winds, mainly in the north and west. Temperatures generally returning closer to normal, although in any sunshine it will become rather warm at times.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 6 Jun 2017 to Tuesday 20 Jun 2017:

Confidence in the forecast remains low into early June, but on balance the first full week of June looks set to remain unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed with some drier and brighter weather. By the middle of June, more settled weather may begin to dominate bringing drier and brighter weather. Temperatures are likely to be close to normal during the start of this period, but as more settled weather arrives it is likely that it will turn warmer and may become very warm in places.

UK Outlook for Sunday 28 May 2017 to Tuesday 6 Jun 2017:

A very uncertain period, but the more likely scenario is for rather mixed conditions during the Bank Holiday, with showery outbreaks of rain, perhaps heavy and thundery, but also some brighter spells. Temperatures are likely to be down compared to earlier on in the weekend, although it should stay rather warm and humid, especially in the southeast. Meanwhile, it will probably be cooler and fresher in the north and west, where we may see windier conditions. Into next week, we will generally see a mixture of sunshine and showers, particularly across the northwest. However, we may hold on to drier, brighter and perhaps warmer conditions in the far southeast, although some thundery showers are possible.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 7 Jun 2017 to Wednesday 21 Jun 2017:

Confidence in the forecast remains low into early June, but on balance the first weekend of the month looks set to remain unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed with some drier and brighter weather. Into the following week, and more settled weather may begin to dominate bringing drier and brighter weather for many.
