The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 Hour Total up to 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 1.6 mm
Total since 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 0.0 mm as at 2:00 pm GMT (14:00 UTC) this afternoon on Monday 19 February 2024.

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 36.6 mm (59.9% of 1991-2020 February average).
Number of rain days during this month so far: 9 (84.1% of 1991-2020 February average).
Number of dry days during this month so far: 5

This means that onnly at least another 2 rain days now need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days.

We're seeing plenty of occasions when it's raining but so far during this month, we've been getting very little out of that in terms of our actual rainfall amounts and so unless there is a dramatic change in that scenario in the last third of this month, this is looking like being a below average month here in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

Seasonal Data

Total for this winter so far: 219.4 mm (105.0% of 1991-2020 winter average)
Number of rain days during this winter so far: 38 (102.5% of 1991-2020 winter average).
Number of dry days during this winter so far: 22

This means that more official rain days have now been recorded during this winter than the 1991-2020 winter average and so this winter will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 108.0 mm (13.8% of 1991-2020 annual average).
Number of rain days during this year so far: 21 (15.3% of 1991-2020 annual average).
Number of dry days during this year so far: 15

Blimey, that's a lot! Just goes to show how the North Downs acts as a rain-shield for those in the north of the county.

Here the annual total has just hit 100mm, with just 1mm today and 62.2mm for the month so far.

We have a similar rain shadow effect here in SE Scotland as a result of Edinburgh being largely surrounded by hills both to our north and to our south, as you may well have noticed from the data which I've been reporting on here fairly recently.

Indeed, even this morning's rainfall isn't falling with any great conviction here and so, appears unlikely yet again to produce any actual large amounts of recorded rainfall here.

In addition to that, this year's annual total for Edinburgh Gogarbank is also very similar to what you have reported here, as you will see above.

24 Hour Total up to 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 3.6 mm
Total since 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 1.2 mm as at 12:00 noon GMT (12:00 UTC) on Wednesday 21 February 2024.

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 41.4 mm (67.8% of 1991-2020 February average).
Number of rain days during this month so far: 11 (102.8% of 1991-2020 February average).
Number of dry days during this month so far: 5

This means that at least another 19.6 mm of rain still needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual amounts.

44 flood alerts and 220 warnings and counting. Most of the alerts are in SW  England up to Dorset and Bristol, and from there across the Midlands to Lincolnshire. Only small areas in the SE & NE are not obscured by red 'pin' markers, and I expect the SE to join in after a delay while the rain works its way down to raise groundwater levels (it's currently within 40cm of the surface in the Lavant valley N of Chichester)  https://www.floodalerts.com/

It's turning into another horrible month for rainfall around here. 20mm of rain this morning, taking the February total up to 105.3mm to 16:00 on the 21st.

Another 100mm month. Every month since July inclusive has recorded at least 100mm of rain around here.

I have no idea how much rain we've had (my rain gauge has stopped working) this year so far but it's a lot, The river Frome has burst it's banks again today and it's chaos on the roads, places called Feltham, Blatchbridge, Wallbridge, Spring Gardens, Oldford and yeah our factory have all flooded again, I would say a few more areas could be added to the list but there's too  many traffic jams to go find out. That's thee times in a month, unprecedented, it has never flooded this many times in such a short time. Back in the mid 70s the river used to flood fairly regularly but not to this extent.
