Now that we're into a brand new month, it's now time to start a brand new thread for reporting this month's all important rainfall totals in your area.

This is also the final month of the meteorological winter and according to the 1991-2020 averages, it is also our driest month of the winter on average and our fourth driest month of the year so far.

Having said that though, we have had some very wet Februaries in recent years but regardless of how all of that pans out, this is the very place to be reporting those all important rainfall totals in your own neck of the woods.

Recorded only trace amounts in the first 6 days of this February, quite a dry start to the month but looks like that's all about to change with around 50 mm in the next 5 days for my location going by model outputs.

Ummm - in a similar way to how we 'guestimate' the CET temperature - is there a precipitation competition we could do?? Is there a published standard measure over a CET-type area?? Just a thought.

I recorded 31mm in Evesham yesterday.

That compares with an official February LTA for Pershore of 35.6mm and my own ave (since 2007) of 40.7mm

We had already had 17mm on Tuesday on top of that.   Not surprisingly, the Avon is in flood again although levels are not currently expected to be quite as high as in January.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 Hour Total up to 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 1.0 mm
Total since 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 2.8 mm as at 9:00 pm GMT (21:00 UTC) this evening on Friday 9 February 2024.

Given that today was such a miserable day here, I was expecting far higher totals for today than what we ended up getting.

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 10.4 mm (17.0% of 1991-2020 February average).
Number of rain days during this month so far: 4 (37.4% of 1991-2020 February average).
Number of dry days during this month so far: 3

Seasonal Data

Total for this winter so far: 193.2 mm (92.5% of 1991-2020 winter average)
Number of rain days during this winter so far: 33 (89.0% of 1991-2020 winter average).
Number of dry days during this winter so far: 20

This means that only at least another 15.8 mm of rain now needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this winter to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual amounts.

In addition to that, just at least another 5 rain days now need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this winter to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 81.8 mm (10.4% of 1991-2020 annual average).
Number of rain days during this year so far: 16 (11.6% of 1991-2020 annual average).
Number of dry days during this year so far: 13

Total since 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 0.4 mm as at 10:00 am GMT (10:00 UTC) this morning on Saturday 10 February 2024.

We had quite a bit of rain during the night which has brought these totals much more into line with what I was expecting here from this current spell of weather.

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 19.0 mm (31.1% of 1991-2020 February average).
Number of rain days during this month so far: 4 (37.4% of 1991-2020 February average).

This means that only at least another 7.2 mm of rain now needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this winter to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual amounts.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 90.4 mm (11.5% of 1991-2020 annual average).

Over 12mm last night month on 35mm - not too bad yet and this is nearly all from two rain/snow events.
February is usually the first of our 'springtime' driest four months all average around 50mm.
