The NHC has advance Lee to a major hurricane by Friday, the fastest ever it has forecast such intensification in the Atlantic. The current track lies between Bermuda and Bahamas so currently not a threat to land - but maybe later

Yes - most models forecast Lee to flirt up the eastern seaboard of USA and eventually Canadian Maritimes by end of next week as a major hurricane:

GFS 06z has Lee hitting the NE coast of north america , the other one which has yet to be named will hit the Azores, interesting to see how it affects our weather and interacts with Lee eventually

Consensus is that Lee will intensify rapidly as it picks up warmth from the Gulf Stream and become a cat 5 for a few days, but probably weaken as it encounters cooler ocean water stirred up by Franklin. Most likely landfall is in the Canadian Maritime provinces, but still some uncertainty in that. If it does become a cat5, it will mean that every ocean basin in which hurricanes can form will have had a cat 5 this year (the northwest Pacific (Super Typhoon Mawar), the North Indian (Cyclone Mocha), the South Indian (Cyclone Freddy and Cyclone Ilsa), and the Southwest Pacific (Cyclone Kevin)).

There is currently a mini-cat 5 on the Pacific, Jova, only 30 miles radius!

The next Atlantic wave is forecast to become TS Margot shortly near the Cabo Verde Islands, with good prospects that it will also intensify to a hurricane.

SSTs are unusually high this year, but the big yellow thing has been around for longer

Perhaps related to Atlantic hurricanes? There were some notable long deep swells coming up the Channel; this morning and reaching past Portland Bill.

We didn’t encounter any problems with hurricanes on our cruise, although we hit the heatwave in New York. We returned yesterday but on Saturday, the captain announced there had to be a change of itinerary this week to avoid the hurricanes. They are now sailing from Cape Canaveral in Florida to Cozumel in Mexico, instead of Amber Cove in The Dominican Republic, which we did on our first week.

Glad to hear you dodged the hurricanes and hope you had a good time.

I suspect the captain is changing itinerary for the next hurricane, currently no more than a disturbance moving off W Africa. If it does develop, it will be named hurricane Nigel.

Lee about to hit Maine and Nova Scotia, now post tropical but technically still a hurricane at 80mph. Likely to see this in the news

TS Phillipe is interesting because it has the potential to be a very long lasting tropical cyclone. Could be several weeks, would have to last a month to break the record.

TSs Philippe and Rina doing the the 'Fujiwhara Tango' i.e. 'dumbbelling' around each other. Current thought is that Philippe will absorb Rina and continue as a strengthened system moving slowly N/NE through the Atlantic.

Some late tropical storm activity:

Atlantic - Tammy is now a hurricane having brushed past the Leeward Islands and is predicted to die down as a tropical storm in mid-Atlantic, but still close enough to disturb the models for UK weather. A likely cat 1.

Pacific - Norma is causing havoc around Baja California at cat 2.

Indian - Tej is cat 1 and expected to bring flash flooding to Yemen & Oman before being killed off by dry air from Saudi. Also a potential TS in the Bay of Bengal, this likely to bring heavy rain rather than wind.
