Anyway a dusting of powder when I woke up this morning from what would have passed over last night I guess.
Oh thank you Brian for adding the spellcheck. A welcome addition.

Theres maybe a 50/50 chance of more significant snow for south Dorset tonight.  Good luck.

I’ll be keeping a regular eye on the radar today in the hope the models have massively mistaken the northward extent of the channel snow…

Thank you APS. A kind of double edged sword this winter with having got my office electric heater back yesterday from my neighbour,  I can now pay Vladimir Putin and my energy supplier even more of a premium for keeping myself warm. So on the one hand although it's interesting to watch snow fall and experience freezing temps, I assume there are many people me included, who will foot the bill for our govts failure in soft and hard diplomacy and the massive strategic energy blunders they've allowed to happen on their watch. So I'm not too bothered if it becomes milder and reduces my heating costs. Of course down the line another spell of similar synoptics will be colder because the sea and sub surface ground temps are taking a tumble right now.  So I would hesitate to say winter will be over from this weekend.

OTOH, I'm driving home from Winchester this evening after 2100, so just delay that an hour or two, please.

The snow still lying this morning after a cold night, -3.3C and not above freezing yet. Still hard packed snow in the road outside from the 7cm the evening before. Some temporary thawing yesterday but not at the top of the hill (120m) where it was great to see the little kids building giant snowballs and being pulled along on sledges.

Looking at the radar, the precipitation in the SW is much further north than modelled.

Did get a dusting of snow this morning, which I'm considering entering into my sig though I'm not sure it counts because I didn't actually see the snow fall. In fact I thought it was frost, but on closer osbervation it was tiny individual snowflakes. This was 11am, its actually crazy that such a tiny dusting of snow was still around at that time.

Wondering if this will be far enough to clip Slough area tonight? I am here now until tomorrow night when I go back to bone dry Birmingham.  1cm of snow patches around my work place.

Is there an issue with the radar. When you play the sequence it looks like there is a big hole CS England. Some precipitation has now appeared the other side and is growing?

Friday night's snow is still lying fairly deep here, though it's turning to ice now. This is the longest I've seen snow lie for a good few years. Most falls in the last 10 years have vanished after a few hours at most.

There are issues - both ongoing and specific. There’s quite a bit of anaprop dotted around (possibly due to the shallow inversion with height). The ‘triangle of doom’ that you see in the Wiltshire/Hampshire area is due to a fault with the Dean Hill radar station. It’s been like that for ages and causes falsely positive returns but only in a fan radiating eastwards from the radar site.

That said I’d say at a glance the area of ppn moving in from the west looks more robust than modelled even by the most aggressive projection and it also looks on a more NNE track rather than properly sliding ESE. Might be a few surprises for the southern contingent tonight.

Definitely been false echoes all day in NE Dartmoor due to temperature inversion. Spectacular on the higher ground as all coated with ice …but not a flake from the sky yet!
written Meto forecast downplays the risk but the radar off the coast looks impressive

Another covering of snow here this afternoon. The nice thing is, because it has been so cold and the ground is frozen, the snow just brushes off the path to the front door of the house.

A couple of inches of fresh powdery snow this morning/lunchtime.  More to come overnight I suspect and looked very pretty.  I love it!!

It is a phrase used by "wittering wazzucks".
It's worth looking into the etymology of both wittering and wazzucks - though I have never found a convincing origin of the last - except mine - which it too offensive to post here! DEW may know, but he's too polite to tell you either.

The precipitation has that faded look on the Radar a sign Ive noticed when it struggles to reach the ground, as I said in the MOD thread its like the precipitation is being wrung out the front.

Here in Helston it’s 3.4c it’s dropped 3.4c in 2 hours… and we have moderate rain with the odd sleety mix.
