Worth keeping a 30C tally, a bit like snow row in winter. Or maybe a 30 and 35C tally

GFS 00z: 11 days >30, 6 >35

06z: 4 days >30

Seeing the charts myself it great news that the HP go a bit north as was the norm in the 80's when HP move in that way and then sink slowly over us, slowly again to EU that give us a heatwave, this set-up give us up to 2 weeks sunny and settled weather before a bang in the past.

Is this really going to happen ? there are murmours in the press about another potential heatwave from next week. Are the models really on to something?

Looks like it, though I doubt we will reach 40 again, probably 36 at best

ECM doesnt have such a good heat pool to tap into

The one I’m looking at has 5 days of 30C and none above 35. Am I looking at the wrong run?

I hope the GFS 12Z isn't anywhere near correct in FI. A proper soaker for my week's holiday!

Thanks for the link Doc, surprised how very high sun hours where I am between orange and white.  Might be the newer sun recorder now pick up brightness levels even no sun disk showing which I see here on some days.  My old recorder I set only to collect actual sunlight and no recording when bright cloudy weather.

Today hit 10 hours of sunshine and not seen very blue skies since 19th July.  Looking good from the latest models.

Sorry. No you are looking at the right run. I thought I had the latest but it had loaded a cached version of the 00z run from this morning!

One thing I’ve really noticed with record breaking dry soil in the south is the coastal cooling affect is dramatically reduced. Where usually you’d travel from inland within 1/2km from the beach the temp drops considerably, but this year the rule doesn’t seem to apply.
I wonder what the science is behind this?

More generally, WX summary continues the theme of hot weather across Europe for the next two weeks. It's not quite as extensive as yesterday; for Britain the really hot weather is now week 2 and only for England SE of Exeter-York while N Scotland along with most of Scandinavia and (later on) W Russia remains cool. Rain now pushed north, to N Scotland and N Scandinavia and (week 2) N Russia while the extremely dry area settles over the Channel, extending E-wards to Baltic and Ukraine week 2.

GFS Op has the LP on the Atlantic moving steadily NE bringing SW-lies then NW-lies before HP re-asserts itself 1030mb Ireland Sat 6th. This converts to a long ridge SW-NE, Atlantic to Norway, gradually pivoting W-E and moving S by the end of the week. LP develops W of Ireland and moves E-wards across Britain as a shallow trough from Sat 14th onwards though pressure remains fairly high to the S (unlike yesterday when LP was anchored over France)

GEFS dips to cool Sat 6th; then rises to v warm; good agreement between ens members on 5C above norm by Sat 13th after which a wide spread of options. The mean drops back to norm but op and control for the S produce 8-10C above though even they drop back later. No rain in the S until almost the end; for the N dry until 13th.

ECM like GFS until end of run Fri 12th when the ridge of HP across the S is interrupted by LP moving up from France

I think there's no doubt we're getting another scorcher. Most models are now onto something commencing just after the beginning of the second week of August.

That’s something I’ve noticed as well. My brother lives on the East coast and we’re 60 miles inland.  We usually get temps 3 or 4 degrees higher inland but this year there have been quite a few occasions when it’s been quite the opposite. Today is no exception.

I wouldn't quite say "no doubt" but it does look very likely with the mean London 850mb temp getting up to 14C for a few days. Incredibly dry ensembles again for the south with virtually zero rainfall for the next 12 days and then only isolated spikes.
