The Waddington reading was exactly the same as Coningsby so it doesn’t really make any difference.

Strange that the Met Office is  not showing any of the 40+ observations on their "last 24 hours" page

They show Scampton at 39.9C

Anyone know why these higher readings have been ignored ?

Because the other values are provisional, presumably being checked as record breaking.

They are not being ignored the site is wrong. For some reason it cant show 40c + its farcical but typical of the Met office online presence.

I saw on Twitter something implying Brogdale only managed 39.0C yesterday. Which seems strange given my PWS up in the downs got to 39.2C and generally doesn't over-report, and Brogdale is downslope in North Kent in a proper hotspot.

Possibly and I’ve lived to tell the tale.  You’ve still plenty of time to experience both.  Before 2010, I thought we’d never see decent snow again in the UK, then in July 2019, I thought I’d experienced a once in a lifetime record temp!

I feel like the Kent hotspots (Gravesend etc) haven’t featured all that much in recent heat records.

Yes its poor. Not sure why WS cant be that expensive and I'd imagine plenty of volunteers willing.

I think so too.  I’m sure there will have been pockets of greater heat around the country.  Gringley on the hill is not far from me and I’m in a valley.  I recorded 42.3c at the peak and although I think that’s high, I do wish there were an official station near me.

Exactly, as they are very close and both in similar rural settings in fairly flat terrain.

Yes East Midlands was the sweet spot yesterday.  Glad Coningsby got the record

If you recorded 42.3c Caz, then that is what the temp was in your location and what you experienced. Might not be 'official', but it is valid for your one spot in the world.

Ally - that was from weatherobs.com - zoom to the area and then click the list icon for the top stations.
