In contrast: “China: Northern city of Mohe reports coldest temperature”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-64378176

“China's northernmost city, Mohe, has recorded its lowest temperature since records began.

Mohe - known as "China's North Pole" - is in the province of Heilongjiang, close to the Russian border.

On Sunday, its local meteorological station recorded a record-low temperature of -53C (-63F) at 7am. The previous coldest temperature on record in the city was -52.3C, in 1969.

However, the temperature is still shy of China's national record.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in China is -58C, in the city of Genhe, Inner Mongolia in December 2009.”

It is being reported from Iceland that it is currently experiencing its coldest winter for over 30 years.

Seem most places have some unusual weather or records broken from high temps in Europe to very cold temps in China all because of interesting set up and no boring HP around that waste valuable winter days and prevent us from variety weather here.

I've been following these webcams since the first snow fell late September I think it was. Which isn't noteworthy.
https://livefromiceland.is/webcams/akureyri/
But Reykjavik not the snowiest part of the island had some epic falls a few weeks ago.
The latest views show melting snow in several places but still some notable heaps on Vestmannaeyjar town centre.

That fits somewhat to a report saying that December was the coldest for 50 years.

That’s the “windchill temperature”. Still it’s a bit on the cold side!

Its slightly confusing how the report is written but it's not a wind chill temperature.  It's in a sink hole though so a bit of a freak location.

Here's another article about it less confusing.

That cold easterly that GFS was touting to hit UK will end up going to east Med and Cyprus with deepening LP moving east clearly by early next week to give very cold northerly and low maxes over Cyprus.  This coming weekend will be intense rain and heavy snow in the mountains that might see 1m or more by Monday after a very poor snowfree start to the first half of winter and too mild that time.  Interesting observations to watch and follow them.
