Quite a few places fell just short of 30C yesterday. Of those that did make it to 30C, the top 2 were both in Northern Ireland

Ballywatticock (NI) 31.2C

Killowen (NI) 30.8C

Linton-on-Ouse 30.7C

Topcliffe 30.1C

Sheffield 30.0C

Quite reminiscent of June 1995 this hot spell.

All this talk of 30C+ in unlikely places has got me thinking, what is the most northerly place in the UK to have recorded 30C? I'm pretty sure that it's been done in the central Highlands, possibly even the west coast of Scotland, but further north than that? If it has been my money would be on the Inverness/Moray Firth area, can't imagine it's been achieved any further north.

But I have to say, I'm finding that new record temp in N.I a bit curious. We had the same airflow down here in 'the south' so an even longer sea track, very slightly higher sun etc, yet nowhere even broke 30c as far as I can tell.

The site will be visited and instrumentation checked….that is why at present the value is quoted as provisional.

Killowen in Co Down also record 30.8C (the old record equalled). 31C was forecast by the computer models yesterday in that area. I suspect Co Down was in a ‘sweet spot’ to get maximum benefit from subsidence induced warming over a few days previously.

Yes, Lossiemouth “recently” reached 30.4°C (in July 2018).

All this heat outside the SE shows the government’s levelling up agenda is working. More heatwaves for the red wall.

Trawscoed 27C at 10.08 and 10.38. A few 26s too.

Already 26.5C at my vineyard vs a max yesterday of only 24C, so the heat is reducing further East today.

Much cooler and cloudier here in Aberdeen today. I feel I have been spoiled over the past week.

Oh!! Oh!! I guess it won't be long then before Richard goes back to posting about his interpretation of the "weekend curse" as a result.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The sensor suite didn’t get stolen but the base unit was in the caravan that was nicked, so I needed to replace that at great expense and then rig up everything in a box (battery, socket, base unit, 4G router).

Now reading 27.8C which is my hottest of the year so far.

Thanks GW!  We’re fairly close to Sheffield, so I’m not surprised at that stat!

Maybe Lerwick could be the next to get the record high for Scotland.  At the beginning of August please!

Not doubting its legitimacy at all, just more find it curious given the broader synoptic set up (which isn't that remarkable)

Just looked at the ICON forecast from 12z yesterday, and while it broadly underperformed regarding maxima, it would have done a better job on distribution and as you say, Co. Down was in a more favourable spot.

And what little wind there was during the afternoon was mostly likely driven by the 850hPa flow, which again, would have favoured the NE of the island more so than the rest (very long land track as you suggested)

On a more personal note, I can't wait to see the back of this heat. Not built for it. Great to see the sunshine after seeing barely any this summer up to now, but 10 degrees cooler by day and by night would be more preferable. And I see the DMI Harmonie is now forecasting 31c for this part of Ireland on Tuesday. Doubt that will happen but it seems things are hottting up a notch with each and every run.
