I've gone through the last few years manually. If anyone can get some more in depth info, I'd appreciate it. Anyway here is the first day 30C was hit for 2018 onwards for any metoffice station (I think these are right but again its just done manually) :

2018: 25th June

2019: 29th June

2020: 24th June

If anyone has the details for other years so we can build up a picture, that would be cool.

Here are a few more. I don't quite agree with your figure for 2019. I have it as the 28th June when 30.0C was reached at Achnagart.

The last time we failed to reach 30C in June was in 2014 (we only just made it in 2015). So if we fail to make it this month then we are looking at 18 July in 2014 as the latest first date to reach 30C in recent years.

The Met Office reminded us yesterday that 13 June is the only date in the three summer months that has never recorded a 30C.

2014  18 July (Gravesend 32.3C)

2015  30 June (Heathrow 32.5C - this is the one that notoriously occurred just before 0900 on 1 July but counted as the maximum for 30 Jun)

2016  18 June (Kew Gardens, St James Park 30.0C)

2017  17 June (Teddington Bushy Park 30.2C)

2018  25 June (Hampton Water Works 30.1C)

2019  28 June (Achnagart 30.0C)

2020  24 June (Heathrow 32.6C)

What a load of rubbish metoffice didn't say anything of the sort!! They actually tweeted yesterday afternoon when the 29.7C was reached  and it wasn't at Heathrow.

Thanks GW! This is great. How far back do you have to find one in May or August. And is 1995 the last time it didn't happen? Has it ever happened in September?

I think you mean 1993 for the last time it didn't happen. 1995 was hot!

Maximum in 1993 was 29.7C on 4 July

The last time it happened in September I think may have been 1954. The hottest day of the year was 1 September when the temperature reached 30.6C at Camden Sq (87F). The data for Camden Sq is of course seen as somewhat suspect but nevertheless, that was easily the warmest day of the year. Summer 1954 was very chilly. The warmest day of meteorological summer was 31 August where the temperature reached only 81F at Camden Sq. The temperature did actually get close to 30C in May that year reaching 84F on 27 May (29C).

The last time it happened in August was of course 2007 when the warmest day of the year was 30.1C on 5 August at Terrington St Clement. The only day of the year that 30C was reached.

Turning to May, I think the last time 30C was reached in May was on 25 May 2012 when the temperature reached 30.9C at Inverailort.

Not saying it didn't change afterwards, but Tally's not entirely wrong. He's referring to 15th I think?

I think we might AP.  It’s almost that here now and I doubt we’ll be the hottest.

I also saw it on Devon live as well the max being 28.6. As for today looks like london/home counties were just shy of of 30c mark.
