We had a few minutes of icy hail then that was it - temp of +9.5c.

FWIW, when I was on holiday several years ago in Yellowstone, I saw powdery snow falling at +9C (yes, really!) - the dewpoint would have been well below zero, as it's far above sea-level there.

It's as much to do with a low dewpoint as anything!

(FWIW, the 850s when that last lot of snow came through were -10C, but as we know that's associated with deep cold, rather than just a "tongue" of cold air at the lowest levels.)

Gosh crazy - also I recall many years ago in the Alps over Easter and temperature was 14c in the Italian Alps (April 1999 i think) at resort level - Aosta/Courmayeur/Siestrierre where we were skiing it was warm and we were sun bathing in hot spring sun in t-[censored]with sun radiating off snow and warming, then all of a sudden the wind picked up, it clouded over and snowflakes fell - wet at first then became powdery dry and settled. - Yet I remember seeing rain here in Exeter at -1.5c and I recall back in November 2003 whilst I was in Chicago - there was freezing rain at -5c which left glaze yet a few miles outside of the city there was up to 5" of snow. Definitely some interesting stuff.

Back to here and now - with many people seeing snow falling in temperatures well above freezing - say +5 or +6c must mean the dew points/uppers are low virtually across the whole of the country? The uppers in London now are around -10c (850hpa) and when we saw that colder spell back in the colder snaps of Jan/February the uppers were not as cold if I remember?

Interesting stuff anyway. Nice to have some April showers in April which is how it should be - like back in the 90's and early 00's.

Moderate snow and very strong winds are giving blizzard-like conditions here currently.

Light to moderate snow shower half an hour or so ago. Started off as proper snow but ended as soft hail/snow pellets.

Lots of convection building up now, just had a snow shower.
Ideally a really heavy one will arrive around 6pm and cover the ground until the morning but we would have to be very lucky.

Some very low dewpoints across the country, close to -10C in places:

Local station says dp -9.7C but looking at the geographical spread on there, -7C is likely to be more like it here.

Not many people know this but we have a snow sports centre a few minutes away in this part of S Dorset.

The Met Office forecast isn't backing up the locations name but you never know one day it might snow here again.

Because looking to the north there are some convectional showers holding what I assume will be wintry material approaching from the NW.

Apparently there was snow in Exeter this morning between 0700 - 0800 am - albeit wet. But I missed it.

Otherwise outbreaks of light sleet/soft hail showers on and off.

Devon Live seems more Expressian than the Express when it comes to hyperbole. Thick snow. Really?

Striking photos captured by Devon man Mark Shackleton this morning show thick snow covering the Warren House Inn at Postbridge near Yelverton and nearby Merripit Hill.

I think I'm going to get shot down here- but we all just watched a 5 minute fall of light snow- with a temperature of 8C! Could it have been soft hail? It melted on landing so I couldn't see any pellets and it made no noise at all.
