ARPEGE is bringing the snow risk a long way south for Saturday. One to watch for the snow-starved SE crew. (Although still nothing here)

The PPN band is fizzling over the west now, meaning that there's no chance of snow. The plus side is that the rain has got much lighter

Believe it when I see it had fa today when Arpege consistently showed snow at least falling here.

Saturday is showing snow for most of mid eastern England on Saturday. However with warmer air moving in by the early afternoon I imagine it will be 2-5cm in the morning followed by a quick thaw to low laying areas during the afternoon.

Snowed for a good 8,9 hours straight here from about 5am this morning, a good 5-6 inches settled here, wasn’t expecting so much

Well the 12z Arpege has even more snow on Saturday here. Hard to believe after today's fail but at least keeps the interest up.

To be honest, my tactic now is to write this winter off. I'm hoping that reverse psychology will work. Just day after day of cold rain. Truly depressing. Snow on the continent, snow over the midlands north. I'm not sure what there is in the models to make Saturday any differentto be honest.

I've run that precipitation band through on the Arpege model on Meteociel for Saturday and it really looks like mainly rain. Cold rain I grant you, which will make a change from all the cold rain we've been having for the last 3 weeks. Really wish I did see a chance of snow from it but not seeing it - surface temps above zero, 850s about -2, dewpoints just above zero... what am I missing?

Would love to be proved wrong though

Im not convinced by Saturday marginal potential ‘snow event’ and the washout if BBC temps of 8dc on Sunday come to fruition.

Yes its been an awful spell of weather as you say cold rain for basically 3 weeks.

The Arome model has very little snow on Saturday so its definitely an outside bet again.

well I couldn't believe it just kept raining and raining up here in North northumberland, I guess North Sea effect. 5 miles up the road it did snow, and 400ft up the nearby hills - no reason to believe Saturday will be different.

Even though it kept snowing and snowing - the accumulations were ‘modest’ for the total duration and very wet in areas. Nice but could have been a true ‘snow fest’ set up.

Arome is much more patchy for the SE and EA so don't hold your breath.

Rain to snow boundary about 10 miles to my north, of course.

I'm not expecting much here either Arome looks very unconvincing.

Just to cheer you up, have a look at the Alaro model. It only covers eastern counties from around The Wash south but it's perfect for our area.  It shows snow from around 5am until midday. It is at the upper end of the range of output but it's in line with the latest BBC radio forecast which talked of problems with snowfall for the East and South East into tomorrow afternoon.

Here's a snapshot for 9am:
