Southern heatwave possibilities aside I would welcome some warm or at least sunny summery weather. Even high teens would be good, and that is what much of the output is showing for parts of the north. The BBC app has a forecast max of 13°C for both today and tomorrow here.

And we have an El Niño now in force, which is only going to strengthen, causing all sorts of fun and games in the coming months ahead.🌩️☂️☀️❄️

I really hope that doesn't come off. Thankfully as it's a week away there's still plenty of time for it to change!

If you're a heat fan you'll definitely want to bookmark the 6z control - it's a classic "heat dome" setup, something which used to be vanishingly rare here.

This chart is simply bonkers... note these are 850s!

That control run is something else. There's a static (it won't refresh with 12Z data) animation here.

GFS 12z Op has 8 straight days across S England with thicknesses 570+

I remember August 2003, being impressed with one day of the same (and a small zone of 576dam, which we exceed also in this model).

Many years ago, around the turn of the millennium, a younger me asked on usw whether it was physically possible to get the 582 line over the UK (being the next step up from 564 - the old WZ charts went 474, 492, 510, 528, 546, 564, 582, and that was chosen based on the even older hand-drawn charts). The replies came in that we couldn't get anywhere near it, I think people found it mildly amusing that anyone should ask! Yet here we are, getting perilously close to seeing it. I suspect we *will* see it in the next 25 years, the way we're going, and I also suspect we'll never see the 492 line again in any of our lifetimes, or maybe even sub-500 (according to that thickness link from booty that I posted, the record low is 491 near Shetland. I know it was darned close to 492 here in 1987 too).

GFS 12Z has 13 days in a row of 30C+ in the south. 1976esque. And it looks like the heat is reloading at the end of the run too so it could easily be another week of 30C after that.

Yes not record breaking temperatures (35C max I think) but the duration would be incredible. That 12Z run would see 20 days of 30C by July 1. 1976 only had 24 all year…
