When you think about how much energy is required to heat water (v air) that’s an awful lot of energy.

I remember last year there was some very warmer sea temps around SW of Ireland and Cornwall that started to appeared and wiped out our seasons with nearly a year now of dull, wet and cool summer temps and mild winters.   Thought if the sea get warmer there should be more HP in our lattitude which UK becoming like Azores zone.? I all i see is HP kept reversing wrong way NW instead of east as it should be due to earth rotates and how it used to before moving east easily.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Experts predict an 85 percent chance of an above-normal season., linked to La Nina and unusually warm ocean temps

I'll start up a dedicated thread when these hurricanes appear.

Today Nicosia reached 43.6c just 0.3 short to the June hottest record back in 1978 at 43.9C .  Tomorrow forecast going for 44C and slightly hotter before drop back to low 30's for June average.

See what global warming is all about sending all places record broken except UK failed to get anything average to warm weather let alone June record never broken since 1976.  With global warming if was true for UK it would had already hit 38-39C this month.

It one off but no other months or June get some heat record broken more often and surprising that last record was set in June 1976  and never came back to that value of 35.6C  If wasn't the stupid summer northern blocking that started to appeared too much this century we would be already got a 38C or 39C for June.   Most other months warm records was set in non-global warming times.

I refer you to https://www.torro.org.uk/extremes/date-records/max-temp  which lists 6 dates in June since 2017 when the date record was broken.

Guess you don;'t understand what I mean about June absolute max record had not been achieved under this so-called global warming only 35.6C was recorded in 1976 under non-global warming that time.  48 years on and no record being broken to beat 35.6C not even 36.0C rounded figure.   Someone posted the live cam of Santa Claus village and it was 22C at midnight to now 21C.  It now flashing number and the red light themometer seem not working now.   Lapland warmer than the UK at the moment but look over cast.

True; I think we have different expectations of what summer can produce in Britain

Record broken today at 44.5C in Nicosia while Athienou take the title holder to 45.0C so that the highest ever for June.  Tomorrow RIK weather forecast put 44C and 27C tonight so possible same record levels before dropping off by the weekend.   Very interesting there than here for sure.

Dr Michael Mosley missing while walking on Symi - one suggestion is that he was overcome by the heat. The Aegean is under a heat warning and the temp at Symi airport yesterday was 95F/36C despite it being a small island surrounded by sea.

The sort of thing that is a disaster if you are a keen gardener, especially in the UK.
I've seen it once in England, with enormous hail that shredded leaves off trees and destroyed onion and salad crops in Hampshire. Not to mention ornamental garden stuff. And even dented cars and shattered greenhouse roofs. TBH I prefer the ZZZ in the UK.

I agree completely. One person’s exciting weather is another’s potential disaster. It’s a bit like wishing for pipe-bursting cold weather; not that we seem to get that any longer away from northern parts and high ground.

Yes, fully agree with you.

Could get something like that somewhere in the UK this summer. Really severe thunderstorms tend to be more of a feature of bad summers than good summers, e.g, July 1968.

Egypt all-time record broken with 50.9C in Aswan on 7th June. Seems very early in the year to be breaking a national record!

See how other places are getting new June record being broke.  Still shocked that UK June highest never reached above 35.6C in 1976 when there was no global warming that time.  If we didn't get those stupid cold wet dull weather we would had got at least 38C 100F in June at some point as it have a good chance with long daylight and max solar input.#

Aswan remind me a poster in NW forecast models who as Kasim Aswan.
