Looking ESE 5 minutes ago

Not heading this way but a lovely view as it fills out and skirts by to the east. Not heard any thunder from it yet.

Seem to be a few lightening flashes south of Cambridge as well, no rain on the radar.

Was in Lincoln this afternoon - towers shooting up all over the sky by mid afternoon, with a significant CB becoming established to the west of me around 4pm.  Could hear a lot of deep rumbling coming from this beast.

Then on the way back to Gainsborough the roads suddenly became wet and also a very strong smell of rain.  Only just got back into Gainsborough around 4.40pm and the heavens opened - tropical style rain on & off for about 10 mins.  Some flashes and strong rumbles of thunder mixed in.

Constant booming thunder from the storms to the south and south-east. Looks nasty east of York.

As I expected the MetO forecast for here has removed the thunderstorm symbols. Everything will probably stay to the east of here.

Heavy shower and flash of lightning here now. Not showing on radar yet so assume its just formed. Shower easing off , was very brief, 2-3 min affair.

I went to Sutton in Ashfield, 7 miles away, at 3pm, and drove home less than two hours later with the same experience you had.  Got the smell of rain, then puddles, then water in the gutter, yellow leaves strewn all over roads!  Got home and hubby told me what I’d missed!

It’s sunny, hot and sticky now!

MetO yellow warning area looks pretty misjudged going by the big storms over N. Yorkshire at the moment. Some great looking thunderheads to the south, punchy storm passed to the east of here in the past hour, lots of lightning. No direct hit here though as yet.

Just had a sharp shower with large raindrops. Think it was forming overhead, will probably turn into a good storm north of here (typical).

Another downpour, much more potent than last time with some lightning too. Oh, and a rainbow! Can't remember the last time I saw one of those.

Here’s hoping!

Good grief, an unbelievably torrential downpour just rattled through - severely reduced visibility and our road has turned into a river. Very gusty winds also. Talk about a drought buster!

Hmmm!  It’s all gone quiet here and lots of blue sky. We’ve had nothing more since the rumbles earlier and the sun’s stayed out. Maybe later!

A good series of storms passing through east and west and a couple head on. Nice aperitif, let's see what the main course has to offer overnight and tomorrow. Cloud-top cooling comes into play in the plume scenario, so more storms will fire ovenight.

These showers and thunderstorms are capable of developing at any time though, and I have noticed that a shower had developed just to the north of Galashiels which wasn't there a short time ago. When I last looked, that was very light and not really looking like much, but that does have the possibility of developing into something more significant over time.

I too, am noticing an increase in the cloud cover over Edinburgh from the south and east although this hasn't yet interfered with today's sunshine totals at Edinburgh Gogarbank (it could of course, be a different story at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh) with 13.7 hours of sunshine having now been recorded for today there so far, as at 8pm this evening.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Yes John, I'm not experienced in the physics of thunderstorms but there is an upper trough heading towards us and with cloud top cooling storms can fire overnight so watch for lightning to the east after dark.....the ingredients are in place
