Looking ESE 5 minutes ago 

Not heading this way but a lovely view as it fills out and skirts by to the east. Not heard any thunder from it yet.

Raintoday site showed/shows storms breaking out North of Stansted, up the M11 towards Cambridge!!

Was in Lincoln this afternoon - towers shooting up all over the sky by mid afternoon, with a significant CB becoming established to the west of me around 4pm.  Could hear a lot of deep rumbling coming from this beast.

Then on the way back to Gainsborough the roads suddenly became wet and also a very strong smell of rain.  Only just got back into Gainsborough around 4.40pm and the heavens opened - tropical style rain on & off for about 10 mins.  Some flashes and strong rumbles of thunder mixed in.  

I went to Sutton in Ashfield, 7 miles away, at 3pm, and drove home less than two hours later with the same experience you had.  Got the smell of rain, then puddles, then water in the gutter, yellow leaves strewn all over roads!  Got home and hubby told me what I’d missed!  

It’s sunny, hot and sticky now!

Hi Caz, no doubt there's more storms coming our way though!   In fact a new storm looks to be approaching here at the moment. Going very dark to the S & SE of me with rumbling thunder and big drops of rain increasing.   Curiously, the wind seems to be from the NE here at the moment.

We had a sudden torrential downpour 30 minutes ago - popped up very quickly, not on radar. Ran around the house closing windows like a whippet. Not that whippets can close windows.

Hmmm!  It’s all gone quiet here and lots of blue sky. We’ve had nothing more since the rumbles earlier and the sun’s stayed out. Maybe later!  

Still no rain. Virtually clear skies all day. Temp now 30C. We could really do with some rain! 

According to the latest radar maps though, there's nothing much showing up in this part of the world with all of the action still happening just in England. However, those storms in the north of England are trundling slowly northwards and have now just about reached the Scottish border according that radar map.

These showers and thunderstorms are capable of developing at any time though, and I have noticed that a shower had developed just to the north of Galashiels which wasn't there a short time ago. When I last looked, that was very light and not really looking like much, but that does have the possibility of developing into something more significant over time.

I too, am noticing an increase in the cloud cover over Edinburgh from the south and east although this hasn't yet interfered with today's sunshine totals at Edinburgh Gogarbank (it could of course, be a different story at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh) with 13.7 hours of sunshine having now been recorded for today there so far, as at 8pm this evening.
