Widespread heavy showers

Low pressure is expected to remain in control of the weather as we head into August. Therefore the outlook is quite unsettled with the best chance of dry and warm interludes in the south east.

Thursday is off to a showery start in the north and west of the UK, but elsewhere it is dry. Through day heavy showers push eastwards across all regions and at times they could bring a few rumbles of thunder. It will be quite windy, especially in southern and western coastal counties. This afternoon some drier and brighter spells are likely in central areas.

Temperatures range from 15C (59F) in the north to 20C (68F) in East Anglia. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight it becomes dry in central and eastern regions. In the west showers continue , and in the north west more prolonged outbreaks of rain return.

Tomorrow brings a mix of sunshine and heavy showers to central and northern regions. After a dry start in the south outbreaks of rain spread in from the west.

The weekend will be changeable. On Saturday heavy showers affect much of the UK, but central and south eastern England probably remain mostly dry and bright. Showers spread eastwards across all areas on Sunday, and at times they could be heavy and thundery.
