Hot and fine weekend

A hot weekend is in prospect for much of the country. Next week's details are uncertain but it probably remains warm in the south and the heat could rebuild.

The weekend starts cloudy and damp in the far north west but elsewhere it is fine. During the rest of the day sunny periods develop and it becomes very warm or hot in much of the country. The north west remains cloudier with patchy outbreaks of rain.

Temperatures probably 29C (84F) in eastern England and 27C (81F) in eastern Scotland. The far north west will be cooler. See the rainfall radar and UK weather report map for the latest.

Tonight wet weather continues in the north west. Other areas have a dry and warm night.

Tomorrow brings more sunny and hot weather to England and Wales. In the south temperatures could peak at a scorching 32C (90F). Scotland and Northern Ireland have a cloudier and cooler day.

Next week's forecast details are uncertain. Early on rain affects the north and thundery showers are possible in southern counties as somewhat cooler air tries to return. Nonetheless a good deal of fine weather is expected and the south may stay very warm. The second half of the week could see hot conditions returning northwards as a Spanish Plume develops, but there is a risk of it turning more changeable from the west.
