Mixed mid term outlook

[Updated 07:00 30/05/2017]

Fair weather

Rain or shine? The medium term outlook is uncertain as areas of low pressure and high pressure battle for control of the UK's weather.

Tuesday starts with showers in the north and west but elsewhere it is dry. This morning wet weather pushes across Northern Ireland and into north western parts of Britain. Through the afternoon the rain spreads southeastwards but it becomes increasingly patchy. Southern counties may remain mostly dry and bright.

Maximum temperatures range from 12C (54F) in western Scotland to 22C (72F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rainfall radar and UK weather report map for the latest.

Tonight it becomes dry. In the north clear spells lead to a chilly night.

Tomorrow should be a fine day. Isolated showers are possible in the south but there will be warm sunny spells.

Thursday looks warm in the south and east but scattered showers may break out in the afternoon. Across the north and west rain returns. During Friday wet weather pushes southeastwards and there is the potential for heavy rain.

The weekend prospects are mixed. A ridge of high pressure could bring warm and fine conditions to the south and east, but the north and west remain showery. Buzz peeks ahead to the TWO summer forecast which will be issued tomorrow.
