Very warm next week?

[Updated 07:30 20/05/2017]

The weekend is off to a cool and dry start in England. Across Wales and Northern Ireland there are showers, and for Scotland it's a wet picture.

Through the rest of the day rain continues in Scotland but this afternoon it becomes patchier. In the rest of the UK sunny spells develop but showers in the west steadily push eastwards, and at times they will be heavy and thundery.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) in Scotland to 18C (64F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight it becomes dry as rain clears from Scotland and showers in other areas fade away. It will be nippy with the risk of a local ground frost.

Tomorrow showers break out in Scotland. Elsewhere a dry and quite warm day with a good deal of sunshine is expected. Probably good conditions for a barbecue but if you miss out don't worry  - it looks like a major change in the weather is on the way!

On Monday rain affects central and northern regions but the south stays mostly dry. Through the rest of the week high pressure is likely to bring a spell of fine. There is uncertainty about temperatures, but It looks like the warmest spell of the year to date and there is a possibility of it becoming quite hot.
