Cold with wintry showers

Tuesday is off to a very cold start. Wintry showers are affecting the north and temperatures overnight have fallen close to 0C (32F) across the UK.

Today wintry showers become widespread in the north and they steadily push southwards. Many fall as snow in the north, and in the south a wintry mix is expected. A keen northerly wind drives the showers on so not many places avoid them, but there will be sunny spells too.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) to 11C (52F), north to south, but when the showers come along they rapidly fall. See the radar for the latest view.

Tonight the showers retreat back to coastal counties. Under clear skies it will be cold and frosty.

Tomorrow southern and central areas remain cold and showery. In the north cloud builds and less cold begins filtering in from the west. On Thursday and Friday showery rain spreads southwards and it remains chilly.

Latest guidance for the Bank Holiday weekend suggests a changeable picture. Saturday will probably be quite cloudy with showers at times. Late in the day outbreaks of rain reach the west and through Sunday they spread northeastwards. May Day could bring further wet weather. Buzz looks at the Bank Holiday weekend.
