Colder weather on the way

[Updated 08:40 19/03/2017]

Snow scene

Sunday begins with rain in north western England and Northern Ireland. In western Scotland there are showers but elsewhere it is mostly dry.

Through the day outbreaks of rain spreads southeastwards but they become patchy. A few heavier bursts are likely in Wales and western England this afternoon, but central and south eastern areas probably remain mostly dry. In the north sunny spells develop, but showers continue in western Scotland.

It will be quite mild in most of the country with temperatures reaching 15C (59F) in the south. See the radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet weather pushes eastwards and affects much of the UK by the morning. The heaviest rain is expected to be in the west, and the north east may remain mostly dry.

Tomorrow a band of rain steadily moves southeastwards, reaching the south east during the afternoon. Colder conditions follow it from the northwest, and showers develop which turn wintry over higher ground.

Tuesday looks cold and showers will probably fall as snow even at low levels in the north. During the afternoon more persistent rain could affect the west. Rather cold conditions continue on Wednesday and Thursday with an ongoing a risk of wintry showers in the north. In the south more persistent spells of rain are possible.

During Friday and the weekend high pressure builds over the north of the UK. This brings drier conditions and after a chilly start warm air could start to feed in from southern Europe. Buzz looks ahead to April.
