Thursday starts with patchy outbreaks of rain in the north west. Other regions are dry but there is a lot of mist and low cloud cover.
Through the day rain will steadily spread southeastwards into northern England. Colder conditions follow on behind, but showers develop and turn to snow over high ground. Southern and central regions stay mainly dry, but there will be a lot of cloud cover and fewer bright spells than yesterday.
Temperatures range from a chilly 6C (42F) in northern Scotland to 15C (59F) in East Anglia. See the radar for the latest view.
Tonight light outbreaks of rain spread southeastwards but southern counties should remain mostly dry. In the north west showers continue and they will become more persistent in the west. Over high ground in Scotland is a risk of snow.
Tomorrow wet and windy weather pushes eastwards across central and northern areas. In the north the rain becomes heavy, but clearer and colder conditions return to northern Scotland. The south should be mostly dry until the evening.
The weekend prospects are mixed. All of the UK has wet weather at times, but there will be dry periods too. The heaviest rain is expected to affect northern and western parts of the UK. It will be windy, but mostly mild although Scotland will generally be colder.

The 16 day GEFS shows a mixed outlook. All regions have unsettled weather but during the last third of the month the chance of drier periods increases, particularly in the south. Next week it becomes colder.
