The weekend begins mild and unsettled. Bands of rain are affecting eastern England and the north west of the UK.
During the morning the rain in eastern England clears away to give southern and eastern areas dry spells, but the wet weather in the north west gradually spreads southeastwards. The rain is likely to be heavy at times, especially in the west, and it will be accompanied by strong winds. During the afternoon clearer conditions follow into Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in Scotland to 11C (52F) in the south west. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight the band of rain continues moving southeastwards with drier conditions returning to central regions. In the north west cloud builds and by the end of the night it turns wet again.
Tomorrow morning begins damp and drizzly in the south east but dry periods should develop. In the north a band of heavy rain and gale force winds pushes southeastwards. Clearer skies follow into Scotland and it turns colder with showers increasingly falling as snow over high ground.
Next week marks the beginning of the meteorological spring. Unfortunately this looks like coinciding with a very unsettled period of weather, this is in marked contrast to the quiet conditions prevalent for much of the winter. Early in the week it will become colder, especially in the north where there is a risk of snow. As we head towards the weekend milder air may filter back in across the southern half of the country, but further rain is expected. Buzz looks ahead to early March.
The 16 day GEFS show unsettled conditions with all regions having showers or longer spells of rain. Colder conditions bring the risk of snow to the north at times.
