Almost warm tomorrow

[Updated 08:30 19/02/2017]

Red sky

Sunday begins dry in much of the UK but there are a few spots of rain in the west. It has been quite a mild night.

The rest of the day remains dry in central and eastern areas with sunny spells developing quite widely. In the west thicker cloud brings an increasing risk of rain, and during the afternoon some heavy bursts are likely in Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

It will be very mild with temperatures ranging from 9C (48F) in Scotland to 13F (55F) in the south west. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight outbreaks of rain steadily spread southeastwards but they become patchy. Drier conditions follow on behind, but in the north west wet weather returns.

Tomorrow rain in northern and western regions steadily becomes lighter. In the east it should be mostly dry and there is a likelihood of some cloud breaks. Often in February the words "cold" or "mild" are used to describe conditions but tomorrow "warm" may be more appropriate for some. A Foehn effect means temperatures in eastern England could reach 18C and to the east of the Grampians in Scotland an exceptional 16C (61F) is possible, if bright spells develop.

During mid-week it stays mild but all areas can expect rain at times. It will become windy and there is a possibility of stormy spells in the north. By Friday colder polar maritime air briefly returns from the northwest and this brings a chance of snow to high ground in the north. Buzz investigates.

The 16 day GEFS shows a very mild start but a short colder snap develops during the second half of the week. After that changeable weather is expected with temperatures slightly above the average.
