The weekend is off to a wet and windy start in the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it is mostly dry. Through the course of Saturday the rain slowly pushes into northern England. Behind it a few bright spells develop but there will be heavy showers too. Central and southern regions have a dry day with sunny spells.
It will be very mild with temperatures ranging from 9C (48F) in Scotland to 13F (55F) in the south west. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight showery rain in the north gradually eases off and clear spells develop. Southern and central regions have a dry night.
Tomorrow the risk of patchy rain continues in the north west. Elsewhere it stays mostly dry and very mild with bright spells at times.
On Monday wet weather affects parts of the north, but it will be exceptionally mild as a wedge of very warm tropical maritime air crosses the UK. A Foehn effect means temperatures in eastern England could reach 18C and to the east of the Grampians in Scotland an exceptional 16C (61F) is possible, if bright spells develop.
During the middle of the week it remains mild but there is a risk of rain in all areas. It will become windy at times and there is a possibility of stormy spells in the north. By Friday colder polar maritime air briefly returns from the northwest. This brings the likelihood of snow to high ground in northern England and to low levels in Scotland. Buzz investigates.
The 16 day GEFS shows a very mild start but a colder snap develops next week. After that changeable weather is expected with temperatures slightly above the average.
