Friday begins dry in much of the UK but there is some rain in the north and west west. It has been quite a mild night.
This morning rain develops in south western England and through the rest of the day it pushes northeastwards. The heaviest bursts affect the west, but rain extends into central and eastern regions too. Winds strengthen to gale force and gusts of up to 75mph are possible along the south west coast. Over the Welsh mountains and northern hills snow is likely.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in Scotland to 10C (50F) in the south west. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight it turns drier across southern and central counties. The north remains wet and over the Scottish hills further snow is expected.
Tomorrow the wet weather in Scotland slowly pulls away northwards and is replaced by showery conditions. In the south eastern corner there could be some rain too, but elsewhere it stays mostly dry. Sunday brings plenty of dry weather but scattered showers develop and there is a low risk of rain in the far south.
Next week high pressure over Scandinavia will allow bitterly cold air to push westwards across continental Europe. Latest guidance suggests a good chance of the cold block reaching the UK for a time. Buzz takes a look.

The 16 day GEFS suggests a colder spell is likely to develop next week. Beyond the 11th February temperatures gradually recover but it remains fairly dry.
