[Updated 08:30 06/01/2017]

Friday begins cold and frosty in the south. In the north and west it is milder and there are outbreaks of rain.

During the day wet weather steadily pushes southeastwards and drier conditions following on behind into the north west. Some heavy bursts of rain are likely but the south eastern corner should remain dry until the evening.

It will be feel raw in the south and east but much milder in the north west. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain continues in southern counties. Central and northern regions have a mostly dry night and where clear spells develop it will be quite chilly.

Tomorrow early rain clears from the south east to leave mostly dry conditions. There is likely to be a lot of cloud around and at times this could be produce some light rain, especially in the west. Sunday probably stays dry and bright in central and eastern areas but in the north west of the UK patchy spells of rain return.

Next week starts with a band of rain pushing down from the northwest and this is followed by changeable conditions. Forecast confidence for the second half of the week is low but on balance colder and changeable weather is considered the most probable outcome. This would bring the risk of snow to northern areas.

Buzz looks ahead to mid January.
