Down to 7.7C (+0.1C) here today.
Almost certain to be below average now.
Mind we only had a couple of warm days the weekend before Easter anyway really.

Global Warming

So far April has been another very warm month down here in the south. That will take a bit of a hit this week but still we should have a well above average month. The key difference this month compared to February and March is that minimum temperatures have been closer to average. But daytime maximums have been more than 3C above average. Another glorious day in prospect today.

Month                    Mean anomaly    Max anomaly      Min anomaly

Feb                         +2.3C                   +1.7C                 +2.8C

Mar                         +2.9C                   +3.2C                 +2.6C

Apr (to 22nd)           +2.2C                   +3.3C                 +1.1C

I can't recall the last time I had three consecutive months with a mean anomaly of more than 2C. We will probably not achieve that this year as April will likely end up below 2C. Even in 2006 when we had some incredible temperatures between June and October with means well above 2.5C above average, August bucked the trend so we never had three consecutive months.

GW can you remind me what the January mean  was and the accompanying  anomaly figures for January were?

It speaks of the times that we are looking at a slightly above average CET return in a month which has featured over a week (in combination) of some of the most cold-orientated weather patterns that can be achieved at the time of year.

I am left wondering how hard a punch they would have packed had they occurred when the Arctic sea ice was some 1.5 to 2.0 million square kilometres greater in extent. I expect examples of such patterns can be found from the 1950s or 60s - but I'm afraid I've not got the free time to seek them out myself

My mean for April is so far running virtually parallel with March.

9.81c so far this month, compared with 9.8c overall in March.

Interestingly although the daytime maxes are 1c warmer this month, overnight minimums are running at 1c cooler.

It just goes to show how remarkably mild those March nights were !

7.2C (-0.3C) here today but might creep up slightly over the weekend.

Less than that of proper northerlies, which are common at this time of year due to tendecy for HP to form to west of UK.
The main feature of this month seems to have been dry anti-cyclonic conditions which favour higher daytime temps as sun strengthens.
