I fully support the line-up chosen. If our fringe/emerging players don't get first-team experience, then they won't progress and we won't be able to ascertain who has the right potential & should be retained. The domestic cups are exactly the right nursery to do this. If we come a cropper, then you have to accept that.

To me, the league is paramount at this stage of our rebuilding. We don't overpay (either transfer fees or salaries) like Man-U, Citeh & Chelski so we need to secure top-4 to give us a CL place in order to help us attract better quality players. CL qualification is merely a stepping stone for enhancing the team with a longer-term view of recapturing our place at the pinnacle of English football - which is, of course, much harder these days given the emergence of 'plastic' clubs like Chelski & Citeh.

Totally agree Saint , all clubs would like a 'lesser' cup, but really we know they mean naff all , its the CL that everyone wants to be in. Finishing in the top 4 is top priority for 'pool and the rest

The CL is more about finance than it is about football, certainly since it adopted it's current format.

I remember watching three cup finals on TV at the end of last season; the FA Cup Final, CL Final and the Scottish Cup Final. The only one of those which, had I been at the respective matches, I would have considered real value for money was the Scottish final between Hibs and Rangers; it was just a pity about the ugly scenes that unfolded for a while after the end of the game. The Man Utd/Crystal Palace final only came to life very late on, and the CL final was a complete snoozefest, apart from the two goals during normal play and then the shootout at the end.

I actually think that in Scotland, the major clubs up here take our two domestic cup competitions more seriously than is the case with many top clubs in England nowadays, and I for one am quite happy about that.

It's about money and the prestige to attract top players. It's a means to an end.

So it's a case of as you were, Mignolet saving a penalty after a well worked goal from Sideshow Bob earlier.

Spurs draw at Sunderland.

As for Woolwich. Just LOL.

'As you were' except that Chelsea's lead is stretched by another point.

Should have taken all 3 points tonight.

On to Saturday and Arsenal.

Thankfully winning our cup competitions is still seen as better than finishing anywhere but 1st in the league.

I can sort of understand why clubs in England challenging for the Champions League rest players for cup competitions but I really don't understand the likes of Southampton doing it on Saturday when they are not going to qualify for Europe through the league or get relegated.

Mourinho hilarious again tonight. Must be painful seeing essentially the same Chelsea team that he managed topping the table this season!

Chelsea 3 Arsenal 1

Outstanding individual goal by Eden Hazard.

I think it's fairly clear that he doesn't deal with pressure very well when things aren't going his way. It caused his downfall at Chelsea.

Huge result, that. Given the erratic form of Sperms, Arsenal, Liverpool & City, I can't see Chelski letting this slip - they could probably lose 6 or 7 games from now until the end of the season and still win the league.

Totally agree , toothless from Arsenal .

Sanchez and Ozil considering they are world class have gone missing recently , Wengers refusal to commit after June certainly cant be helping

Currently runners up spot up for grabs

Chelsea champions

We'll be chasing the final Eu-loser place at best.

I love Klopp and believe he'll get the team right, but he's currently showing a big slice of naivete. He's keeping the 'gegenpress' against teams we really don't need to, the result being that it just forces them even more into piling 10 men behind the ball - and we don't have a frontman with the quality of a Suarez, for instance. We need to be more canny, play a less intense press, tempt the opposition to play a more open game. When we play teams who will go toe-to-toe with us, we look a different team - and are unbeaten against the other teams currently in the top 7.
