11C (+1.0) here, probably won't change much now with generally cooler end.

There you go Lanky!  I can't see that falling, other than with adjustments.

Been a fantastic May here with lots of warm and even hot sunshine at times. Locally, this month lies at 13.8C to the 28th.

It might actually still climb a little bit, thanks to some very mild nights to finish the month off. A 14-degree May would be ridiculous!

Looks like we all went too low!

Even a downward adjustment won't bring it down to 13c.

If we were to beat the 13.4C of 2008 then it would be the warmest May since 1992 with 13.6C. The only May's warmer than 1992 were:

1848 13.9C

1833 15.1C (wow!)

1808 13.7C

1788 13.8C

1758 13.8C

Interesting that many of the warmest May's occurred over 200 years ago. This year will be one of the warmest since 1848.

I estimate today's CET return at 15.3C. So it will keep rising

Tomorrow also looks like coming in close to 15.3C.

Third month out of 5 with a CET of 2C or more above average, pending adjustment surprises. Interesting year.

13.9C here, making it my warmest May on record by 0.9C.

Also, it means that spring 2017 will now finish as my warmest spring on record too, with an average temperature of 10.39C. That beats spring 2011's 10.30C.

Will this be the warmest spring on record for the CET too?

Previous highest was 10.24C in 2011. So it will be touch and go. Depends on the extent of the final adjustments to the May CET.

The Spring CET has only ever been above 10C on five previous occasions. Here are the top 6

Provisionally the first five months of 2017 are the joint 6th warmest on record in the CET series.

Warmest first five months of the year in the CET series - note all of these have occurred since 1990:

2007 8.62C
1990 8.54C
2014 8.40C
1998 8.24C
2002 8.24C
2011 8.15C
2017 8.15C

The 12 month rolling CET mean now stands at 10.69C.

The last major peak for this dataset was in November 2014 at 11.03C.

Of the last 48 months, 29 have been more than 0.5C above the 1971-2000 mean. Only 7 have been more than 0.5C below that benchmark.

Latest news release from the Met Office

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/2017/warm-and-dry-may-to-round-off-spring

England as a whole likely to see the second warmest Spring on record (behind 2011) since 1910. UK temperature as a whole should be in the top 5. Northern Ireland - warmest Spring on record.

Sunshine in the top 10 ranking by year and most places also drier than average.

So overall a very decent Spring indeed. Just a shame that a couple of late frosts caused some real damage for growers.
