Hospital my wife works at has converted nearly all the operating theatres into ICU wards for CV patients, a kind of overspill.

First one being moved into there tonight as the existing wards are full.

These graphs are quite informative, but we also need to see standardised versions ('per capita'). A death is still a death of course.

Given the scale is logarithmic it's difficult to be certain but France looks to be on a slightly lower trajectory than Italy and, if the decline today in the U.K. figure is maintained then we will be on a similarly lower trajectory.

Agree . If it wasn't a matter of life and death there would be amusement value in seeing Corbyn, Burgon and Long-Bailey running the show.

My complaints about the current government in the current crisis are:

1) Lack of testing

2) Poor and muddled communication (although to be fair the scientists have probably made things worse by speaking too frequently) 

3) Lack of PPE

On the plus side they have moved quickly to mitigate some of the economic impacts. They are also pulling the levers in the NHS and trying to make things happen. Unfortunately that gets to my main bone of contention which is the NHS itself. For decades politicians of all colours have refused to discuss provision of healthcare in a grown up way in the UK.

Look Gandalf, I don’t want to keep giving out and I don’t want to come across that I am whinging. 

I realise the government have a difficult task, near impossible at times. But this is is their job - No government should ever not assume the next crisis is very far away.

Im pleased they give daily updates, and these are an important steps forward and the government are now moving in the right direction with many things.

However, while you have frontline workers still saying they are not adequately protected it’s our duty to call this out. Positive platitudes are all well an good, but these are no good if we don’t have the basic equipment for our fantastic health workers to do their job. A number of weeks now we have been promised this is coming - and it must. The government should not be above criticism even in a crisis.

I don’t want to argue. We are all approaching this crisis in different ways. 

Without wanting to sound patronising, I find that empathy usually helps. Mark's immune system is compromised, so he has every reason to criticise what he sees as wrong measures or approaches or mistakes etc. They threaten his life. I find his posts fairly balanced and very human.

I was called a twa$t for praising Cumming's excellent slogan (which will literally save lives), even though you know my view of him, but what can you do I guess.

You know what I hope Brian. That after this is over, the NHS is no longer a political football. I believe it should be a cross party ring fenced asset.

It would have to be a cross party ‘board’ that looks after it’s interests and not the party of government at the time.

I think this crisis will bring about change across the board. 

If a Corbyn-led government would have implemented the financial measures announced by Sunak, there would have been a concerted and coordinated campaign by the RWM against the government. It's quite illuminating to consider how the media has a huge amount of influence in setting the mood.

It comes after an email to staff at King's College Hospital Trust in London disclosed that 31 patients had died from Covid-19 over a six-week period, but that official figures had only recorded 11 of them.

The deputy chief medical officer, Dr Jenny Harries, said there was a time lag in the number of deaths tallied up as officials firm up the numbers and speak to families.

It raises the prospect that Britain could be following the deadly trajectory seen in Italy, which has now seen more than 10,000 deaths.

Had to go into work to collect some stuff this morning and saw a lone trial biker  zooming along The Ridgeway in South Oxfordshire near Chilton.

I don't think  it ticks  either the "necessary" or "exercise" boxes but I suppose being solitary there isn't much of a risk.  By contrast, having a brief chat with my neighbour (from opposite sides of the road) and he saw a group of similar taking advantage of  an abandoned golf course construction site.  He thought it was all OK, until  for some unexplainable reason they all swapped helmets and visors

You linked the comment originally to derogatory comments about remainers but then you may have been being ironic ;)

Simple messages do indeed carry weight amongst the masses although, as we know from Brexit, there needs to be an undercurrent that needs exploiting to back the message.

In this case the science backs the message
