Well, that's the insurance claim in :-p

Delegated phoning the insurance to the wife, she's good at avoiding the trigger words which the call centre seem to be waiting for to shut down your claim... "You mentioned flat roof! We don't cover flat roofs!"... "But I just said it was next to a flat roof..." Phone goes dead

Blimey. Serious rainfall amounts. Hope there's not too much damage. Just shows the power of nature.

For those around this neck of the country, my untrained eye says things will get going for us during tomorrow afternoon. Once it starts it may well go on into a fair part of Friday as well. I am going to bring tomorrow’s plans forward as it may be ‘troublesome’ to venture out as we go on.

EDIT: Scrub that! Latest charts are showing activity starting earlier tomorrow morning now. Think its a case of watching the radar and choosing your moment to go out if you need to.

Some pictures and reports from Scotland on ‘events’ up there.

The first picture grabbed me with the cars strewn across the hospital car park. What that must have been like in full flow.
While there must have been quite a show, a lot of heartache and upheaval to go through up there.
Wonder who’s next!

Lots of current thundery activity over S Brittany and offshore from Aberdeenshire, but the nearest recent strike I can see is over the N Sea, E of Newcastle.

Just seen this on Beeb. Huge number of emergency vehicles inc. helicopter at the scene. Oh dear. No mention of fatalities in that article but a related one mentions many cancellations due to flooding and shows flooded lines.

The train derailment and fire looks very serious.

On the Scotrail twitter feed, some of the shots of flooding on the network are very sobering. There's also been a canal bank breach.

Told you it was a dramatic night up here. A lot of hardship and serious injuries. Quite sobering and makes me feel guilty for enjoying storms

Large cloud developing overhead, you can even see it building in real time. But the BBC graphics suggest nothing much here until a blob moves through overnight and then more chance tomorrow

I know what you mean, Jerry. Personally, I wouldn't feel guitly about enjoying certain types of weather even when they can cause problems. We all have our own weather likes and dislikes and, more to the point, none of us has any control over how the weather behaves.

For me, thunderstorms are a bit like snow in the winter. Some people love it, some can't stand it. I can't stand thunderstorms if I'm being honest but this largely stems from being scared out of my wits by one in the summer of 1985 when I was just five years old. I do still like snow though even though I know full well hoe problematic it can be, especially instances such as the Beast from the East in 2018.

After scorching heat all day so far, we have had a rapid build up of cloud and some good convection right above my head.

That storm just south of Guildford is a beauty viewed from here in Portsmouth. More brewing west of it as whole northern horizon is exploded
