Happy Easter everyone.

In addition to it being Easter Sunday, we have also just moved into that is known as British Summer Time (BST). This doesn't in any way affect the length of the actual observation day which continues to start and end at 09:00 UTC but those start and end times are now an hour later on our clocks and watches as they now occur at 10:00am BST instead of 9:00am GMT.

With that, we have lost an hour in bed (and from Easter Sunday itself) but we will really notice those much lighter nights from now on.

Although we're into British Summer Time though, this morning has actually started off on a chilly note with a ground frost, but today has also started off on a bright and sunny note for the second day in a row.

As at 7:20am BST (06:20 UTC) this morning, the temperature here in Edinburgh was around 3°C.

Happy Easter! And though you (and indeed most of the UK) may have conned yourself into getting up and going to bed an hour earlier, I sure haven't. 20 years in a row of staying on GMT year round - say "no" to clock-tinkering! 😀

As for the weather, it's mellow... a bit of mist, a lot of cloud, and calm. 9.7, dew 8.6, after a high of 13.7 and a low of 6.0 yesterday.

I note today's expected deluge has been downgraded to a bit of drizzle, so it'll be a mostly dry day here.

That's really what UTC is of course, although that is officially regarded as a time standard rather than an actual time zone.

Down south though, there's known to be a lot of people who would even rather be in BST all year round rather than GMT so that winter afternoons aren't as dark.

Up here though, that would lead to the Sun not even rising until nearly 10am on the day of the winter solstice and that isn't exactly something which I would be looking forward to in any way.

As regards to the weather, the Sun is still shining brightly here in Edinburgh with only some very high cloud around but looking out over the Firth of Forth and to my east, there are now some bits and pieces of easterly muck which look ready to close in at the very earliest opportunity.

9.9C, brisk cold easterly wind, drizzle, 100% dense cloud cover. Awful morning. Not a single aspect correct from the BBC forecast I watched last night. As much as I like most of the presenters I think I am going to have to dump watching these Meteo based forecasts and get back to the Met Office. What channel to people tend to watch for the best forecasts these days? Choices being BBC, ITV, Ch 4, Ch 5 and Sky.

After an overcast start, it is actually turning out nice with hazy sunshine making the current 13 C & low 80% H in a light E breeze feel quite Spring-like. Have experienced worse starts to BST in the past.

More of the way of convective cloud has built up but it's still bright with decent sunny spells and a temperature of around 12°C here in Edinburgh as at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon.

Happy Easter John

A second day in the garden for me, feeling warm in the sun out of the breeze, 12 C

However there's a NE wind picking up and as you say I can expect it to go downhill soon

I'm in Dunkeld Tues to Fri and on The Dumfries coast Sat so we'll see if I escape any easterly muck!

Similar to here: this morning was dull and overcast but dry.  Towards lunchtime we had a period of heavy drizzle, blown along in a cold easterly wind.  The temperature dropped a couple of degrees but it’s now back to 9c.

As you say, not really what they were predicting.

White Rabbits!!

It's the start of a brand new month, it's Easter Monday and it's also April Fool's Day.

It's not raining here (we never get more than one wet month in a row here nowadays even when everyone else is) but today has started off on a very dull and overcast note.

Currently around 6°C here in Edinburgh as at 8:10am BST (07:10 UTC) this morning.

Light drizzle has now set in here in Edinburgh with a cold wind from off the North Sea.

Temperatures are also refusing to rise, and remain stuck at around 6°C as at 12:20pm BST (11:20 UTC) this afternoon.😡
