The fog is down to 100m amsl now with rain and 6 C  so getting worse now here. Heating is on full to heat up the house after a few days away, it's 16 C inside at the moment!

Let's hope we reach double figures outside tomorrow for the first time for 6 days 🥶

So, currently it's 5 or 6 C in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen and yet it's 13 C in Ayr and Berwick and 15/16 C in Carlisle and Newcastle.......remarkable!!

So far to date, Edinburgh Gogarbank has still to see a temperature of 15°C or above during this month and yet, that is being forecast to happen tomorrow.

It's still only around 6°C here in Edinburgh as at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) but the good news is that it's now finally stopped raining at long, long, last after what has been yet another completely write-off of a day here for the second day in succession.

If that happens, that will also push up today's official maximum temperature for here by quite a lot as the official observation day which carries today's date doesn't officially end until 10am BST (09:00 UTC) tomorrow morning. That in turn will make today not look anything like so cold after all here if that happens.

After a dubious start to the morning with some rain and brisk wind, the rest of the day actually turned out decent enough with hazy sunshine and a peak of 16.1 C.

Here in Edinburgh, the temperature as at 11pm BST (22:00 UTC) has jumped up to around 11°C ahead of Storm Kathleen, so the warmer air has finally arrived here at long last.

I'll confirm later in the day and post in the rainfall thread but I think we've had another 15mm of rain overnight which gives us an approximate total of 83mm in the first 5 days of April!
We are also in double figures now for the first time this month at 11.5 C we have a very light Easterly drift, no sign of the gales yet

Here in Edinburgh, there was yet more overnight rain but that only gave a total of 2.4 mm of rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank before clearing away which is a lot less than what we've been used to lately.

There's still a lot of cloud around but that cloud is a bit more broken and this morning's weather appears to be as good as it ever gets now.

Although we are under an official Met Office yellow warning for wind, there's absolutely no sign of any windy conditions here at the moment and it's also a lot warmer than of late (today is forecast to be our warmest day of the day so far if that is correct).

As at 7:30am BST (06:30 UTC) this morning, the temperature was around 12°C here in Edinburgh which is a lot more like it!!

I think that you're probably referring to the total for the entire 24 hour period from 09:00 UTC yesterday morning rather than just the overnight period unless you've somehow had a lot more rain during the night in the south of Edinburgh than there was at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

The reason why I say that is because the 24 hour total at Edinburgh Gogarbank up to 06:00 UTC has been officially confirmed by the raw SYNOP data as 15.8mm which closely matches the figure which you have given whereas a total of just 2.4 mm was recorded there during the night.

Yes sorry John, it was 0600-0600 using weatheronline. I'll post 0900-0900 Swanston figures later 🙂

A bit of brightness and the temperature has jumped to 15 C. My highest of the year!

This time yesterday it was 6 C!

The wind is finally beginning to increase from the SE quite suddenly

Here in Edinburgh, the wind has now picked up but the temperature here in Edinburgh as at 11:20am BST (10:00 UTC) has now jumped up to around 17°C.

That already makes today our warmest day of the year so far by quite a considerable amount and this temperature is also even higher than what was actually forecast for today as our daytime maximum.

This is also the first time this year that the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has exceeded 15°C. The next target is to get our first 20+°C temperature of the year and this is the very month when we usually start to look for that.

All that's missing now is some badly needed sunshine as we're still only getting the odd sunny interval at times with a lot of cloud still around.

The sun is out now in Edinburgh and at 17 C we have our warmest day. It feels so good out in the garden! The wind continues to increase now and is roaring through the trees but the first day of lunch outside on the sheltered patio is very welcome
