(At least the temperature and breeze are perfect, I've not slept so well in late May/early June in years!)

I've thought several times how just utterly pleasant the temperature is - lovely and warm in the day, cool on a night.

I'd prefer warmer as we get deeper into summer, but for now it's perfect.

The summer of 2021 was a really good summer here.

Last summer was also decent if you don't mind getting the odd 40°C+ heat spike.

This summer is also starting off dry and anti-cyclonic, albeit not always sunny here and not necessarily all that warm.

In every one of these occasions, a lot of people were expecting a poor summer only to get a decent summer instead.

Perhaps I'm wrong when I say this, but it would appear from this that we just don't get poor summers any more like what we used to get here in the UK. In a way, this just shows how boring and repetitively predictable, our weather has become because we might as well just say now, that every summer from now on is always going to be a decent one because that is how it always is nowadays.

But of course our expectations will also rise, so what might have been considered a 'decent' summer back in the 50s/60s won't be considered so today.

this is a very good point. April had average temperatures but it felt poor.

It's a point I've made a few times already this year - in some quarters there's a seeming expectation that we have a Med climate, but we don't. As such even average temperatures tend to be regarded as cold!

It's the reverse of the rot that set in during the winter around 20 years ago, when certain weathermen/women started describing 8C in February as "bitterly cold" and the trashier papers followed suit.

Probably because of the lower than average daytime maxima in many parts? https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/uk-actual-and-anomaly-maps

A good example of how quickly the temperatures have risen over the past 30 years. Flip between the 61-90 and 91-20 options and you'll see.

(And for better or worse, I still mentally compare with the 61-90 option, as that's what is still used on the HadCET pages, for example, as well as providing a comparison with the climate when I was a child in the 80s.)

I get the feeling this is going to be a spell I'm going to look back on very fondly in a few years. Dry with day after day of nearly unbroken sunshine, with only the occasional bit of morning cloud persisting for too long (not enough to be an issue though). It's practically been a cooler version of May-June 2018 around here.

Hopefully it's setting a precedent for the rest of summer. 😁

It been very poor first is winds doesn't  stop which is odd why HP create gale force winds which supposed to be happening under deep low pressure set up.  Cloudy mornings prevent a warm up stage from 5am onward so hence those maxes had been 5C to 8C below average daily as any sun came late very late rendered no chance to warm up properly.  Last time was last week Sat when we had full sun and no winds reached 22 the highest so far.  Signs that this HP will sod off and warming up next weekend from the south.

definitely looking forward to some humid southerlies… this high pressure & persistent NE winds have really overstated their welcome now

Yes I really missing sunny morning not seen since last Saturday so a record dull 1 week of cloudy morning.  Still cloudy at the time of typing at 9.30am so lost 4 hours of warming up stage and to warm up my indoor temps which still very cool 19C, made a lot of effort to get to 22-24C which was really nice warmth then destroyed from last few days bitter cold cloudy NE that dropped to 18C inside when outside was just over 10C.  Now is hard to recover those warm indoor temps due to cloudy morning and not warm enough outside..   Can't wait for more sunnier humid southerlies to come. so I can finally open the windows to raise the indoor temps to mid to high 20's,

it will be oh so satisfying when we get the first Spanish plume of the year, where it’s 28-30C and sunny here but 18C and raining in Cornwall/Wales/Cumbria etc. Payback will be swift & severe. 😤

Bit mean 🤔

We were in Anglesey yesterday - but, given our escapade last year and same wind direction, we went to the other (NE) side of the island for an on-shore wind to do a bit of paddleboarding. Wetsuits deffo needed, despite the sunshine. Was pretty cool in the stiff breeze straight off the sea. Only about 18c (whereas at home at 9.30pm it was 20c)

Severe pay back needed to remove this nasty gale force winds and cloudy mornings out for good.  Once again overcast this morning and very cold winds so keeping all shutters shut and use light atm as to stop room temps dropping further as it steady 19C if opened with cold glass from gale force winds battering the windows would sent temps drop further down.  Horrible day yesterday no warming stage at all since it came out very late rendering useless and indoors struggle to reach 21 upstairs.  By now should be comfortable 25 to 26 normal June temps indoors.  Still wearing winter clothing and quilt so late this year.

After a very sunny weekend back to the clagfest this morning.  Seems to be burning off very slowly in London could be mid afternoon before it goes here. Hopefully by Friday we lose this awful north easterly.

Yes, it has been a distinctly cold and chilly Spring and Summer so far here with everybody (well mainly gardeners and farmers) bemoaning the poor growing conditions. It doesn't get much worse than no sun, strong winds, low temperatures and zero rainfall for 4 weeks now! It's currently 12.9C here at 10.45am. Yesterday was the first all clear day with unbroken sunshine and blue skies allowing the temp to get up to 21C but the groundhog day of the last few weeks has returned with thick cloud which will no doubt clear by this afternoon.

Stunning weather here in North Cumbria over the last 5 weeks, dry with a lot of sun, daytime temperatures creeping up to the low 70's as of late.
Cool night time temperature due to low humidity necessitating the log burner Friday Saturday.
More please.
