The Spring moaning thread is still open for those looking back.

This thread is probably going to be occupied for a few days at least by eastcoasters under N Sea cloud, and possibly gardeners who need rain for their plants.

Since you are also allowed to gloat on here, you might also include those members who are further west who might possibly be actually enjoying some warm, early summer sunshine.

Sadly though, I'm not in that category and since we have started off on a dull note here in Edinburgh, I can count myself as one of those moaners due to the lack of any early morning sunshine as well as the ongoing lack of rainfall.

In fact, I'm glad in many ways that the honour of starting this month's precipitation thread has been taken away from me on this occasion as I see no point in having such a thread if it never actually rains, so I would probably have not felt up to starting that thread anyway as I am fed up now with constantly reporting below average totals for this area all the time.

If the latest models are correct as well, I also don't really see that scenario changing during this month either.

My moan is that these threads should also be for general weather discussion, not just moaning (and gloating!)

We seem to be much luckier here in Ireland. Just constant clear and deep blue skies for days on end now.

The Canadian wildfire smoke still faintly visible when looking below the roughly 30 degree angle.

Indeed,  it makes it more annoying tbh when so close by is enjoying great weather. My parents in Weymouth saying blue sky dawn till dusk for weeks now. 🤬

It used to be guaranteed break up by 11am max in the past but seem nowadays we get 24 hours cloud cover for no reason.  Need this HP to sod off and end this silly west as best because I am in the west midlands which is very far away from the east and much nearer to Wales still get 24 hours cloud cover and cold winds.

The high is in the worse place possible for dragging in all this cloud of the North Sea. We can count ourselves very unlucky it's been there for so long. Probably another week at least as well. Very annoying.

What really needs to happen is that the HP needs to centred either right on top of the UK (from where it might generate some home-grown heat due to the high Sun strength at this time of the year) or just to our east (from where it would then be feeding in hot continental air from the south).

At the moment, this HP is in the wrong place from where it is currently feeding in those winds from off the North Sea which is bringing in all of that cloud.

Having said that though, our weather always seems to be terrible when it comes to delivering a particular pressure pattern which is appropriate for the given season which we are currently in.

That tends to be most prevalent in winter when we quite often get "if only it were summer" scenarios which go on to ruin that particular winter along with any chances of getting cold weather or snow at that time.

Now, we are stuck in what is effectively an "if only it were winter" pattern in what is supposed to be our "summer", which is just like the thing!😡

Used to move east everytime before as should be from earth rotation and west to east flow for northern hemisphere zone.  Most now reversed west or stationary purposely in wrong place so both end bad results.

...and those in the east who are thoroughly enjoying the mix of sun and cloud with temperatures in the mid teens. The only way this could be better is if there was some rain, as I'm having to water the garden every other day (or at least the cotoneasters, plum tree and "red robin" I planted in the autumn).

Gloating here from the south coast where every day for the past 10 days has now exceeded 20C 😂 And it makes it feel sooo much better knowing those locations just to my north (including my own county of Hampshire) that saw all that snow during the winter are now being dogged by cloud & cool winds.

2023 continues to make ever the very worst of years like 2014 seem almost palatable by comparison 🤮

The worst late winter and spring I have ever endured and now an absolutely revolting start to "Summer". Absolutely nothing to suggest we're under a 1030mb high. Stupidly grey, stupidly cold and stupidly windy. I've need to put on the electric heater and noticed people passing by in woolly hats. A never ending punishment 😒

UK under a high pressure at the start of summer and it has more of its surface area covered by cloud than any other country in Europe. You couldn't make this 💩 up. North Sea filth worse than it has ever been within living memory.

Weather would be far better with the normal high pressure over the Med. Should be virtually cloudless and bone dry there at this time of year. The current crud is deeply concerning for those of us desperate to get away from the unrelenting garbage. Even Egypt is under masses of cloud and rain today which surely must be unheard of at this time of year https://en.sat24.com/en/eg/rain  😱

Unbroken sunshine today, and forecast for the next week, with UV 8 forecast every day.
Temperatures only low 20s but perfect for my lifestyle, and what weather to be out and about in and the washing seems to be drying in an hour.

How the other half (of C S England) live. We were cloudy till lunchtime and Reading only just scraped a UV6 mid-afternoon. Obviously beautiful now and hopefully likely to be more that way the next few days.

The sunshine is ok but  spoilt by the ENE breeze. The soil is showing cracks from lack of rain.
Getting fed up with a light watering of plants every day.

Still lots of sunshine here for the foreseeable. It's looking like a brilliant start to summer if you ask me.

Agree. Great sunshine but as you say the ENE winds take the edge off what would otherwise be a decent spell of early summer weather.
But.
The last rain fell on the 19th May. The grass has more or less stopped growing and yellowing in places on the light soils here.
Watering becoming a burden but needs must. If you are not a gardener I guess you would be happy for this to go on for the rest of the summer.

Same. The relentless strong sunshine is causing some of my more delicates to wilt, even when watered.

Despite the lack of rain however, grass is showing no sign of yellowing at this point. Likely due to the unforecasted heavy rain event in mid May.

The first sign of yellowing here and my neighbour's is about 40% yellow - he cuts his much lower than I do, though, which hurts the grass (and so it wilts and goes yellow).

Some rain would be most welcome, but in the meantime the watering can is getting plenty of use!

(At least the temperature and breeze are perfect, I've not slept so well in late May/early June in years!)
