207mm YTD, last year to this point was 128mm

A large and very welcomed difference to last year, albeit surprising given we only had 4mm in Feb

140 mm mtd and just over 300mm  for ytd .
Since the start of Nov we have had some 30 inches of rain here in 5 months ie almost our annual average here . It must be one of the wettest such periods on record here Nov was probably the wettest month on record at over 300m in the month . And all this included a 6 week or so period from around mid Jan and all of Feb with just a millimetre or two !

Decent total there! What's your location?

Up to 77mm here with some more to come overnight and tomorrow. Probably nothing heavy so we'll have to see if we can make it to 80mm. Above average but not a washout and actually needed after such a dry Feb.

Managed to get up to 130mm for the month, and probably a bit more to come this evening.

Good for the gardens, good for the muddy trail runs and good for the rivers, albeit on the latter it means the useful effing twats at the water companies will be "allowing" more crap into the rivers as per usual 😤

Thanks for that. I was just about to start this month's thread, but you beat me to it so I will leave it at that. I will shortly be detailing our final March totals for here in Edinburgh once I have gathered all of that data together, so I am pleased that this thread is being kept open for now to allow others to do likewise for their particular neck of the woods. That however, will be my last post on here once I do that.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 Hour Total up to 10am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning: 2.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

Monthly Data

Final Total for March 2023: 64.8 mm (123.5% of 1991-2020 March average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 69.6 mm (143.6% of 1991-2020 March average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Number of rain days March 2023: 12 (116.7% of 1991-2020 March average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 14 (142.4% of 1991-2020 March average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Number of dry days during March 2023: 8 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 8 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

March 2023 was a wetter than average month overall and our first wetter than average month of this year, but not by very much and so the struggle to get any real significant amounts of rain in this part of the world goes on because those same totals just a couple of months or so ago would actually have still been a bit below the average for that particular month..

Seasonal Data

Total for this spring so far: 64.8 mm (43.6% of 1991-2020 spring average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 69.6 mm (50.9% of 1991-2020 spring average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Number of rain days during this spring so far: 12 (39.7% of 1991-2020 spring average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 14 (49.8% of 1991-2020 spring average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Number of dry days during this spring so far: 8 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 8 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 140.8 mm (18.0% of 1991-2020 annual average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 137.0 mm (18.8% of 1991-2020 annual average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Number of rain days during this year so far: 30 (21.8% of annual average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 30 (23.4% of 1991-2020 annual average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Number of dry days during this year so far: 39 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 38 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

We are now a quarter of the way through 2023 which means that we should have had around 25% of our annual average rainfall by now, but we still continue to be well short of that after such a dry year last year.

This data has been obtained from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) by using a beta version of their latest upcoming API system.

60mm here that is 9mm above average.
March is one of the drier months second only to April and similar to May.
