Chilgrove in the Downs N of Chichester has increased from a minimum of 34m asl on 31 Oct to 39m yesterday. That's quite rapid but the long term average for mid-November is 50m and rises at about half this year's rate, so still a long way to go to catch up. Local winterbournes have not yet started running. The rise is much slower in e.g. north Hampshire, probably less than half the south Sussex rate

Very thorough as usual John. I'm coming back to a drier area despite those figures. We are getting 300-400mm per month here!

Bear in mind though, that it isn't as wet on average here in the north of Edinburgh where I am as it is in the south of Edinburgh where you will be returning to, and which is further inland and higher up.

Just to show a very good example of that, the 24 hour total for Comiston (which is slightly further out than Morningside) according to SEPA for the period ending at 9am this morning was 46.8 mm which is impressive even for there (though obviously nowhere near to those Lake District standards which you have mentioned). That takes the monthly total for there to 97.0 mm as at 9am this morning.

In addition to that, it is still raining as I write and so, it looks as though at least one part of Edinburgh will be ending up with more than 100 mm of rain during this month with that total probably being likely to be reached at Comiston at some point in time during this morning.

Here is a report which shows just what the situation is like at the moment here in the north of Edinburgh in my own local area.

EDIT

The Met Office have now extended our yellow warning for rain, right up until midnight (it was previously due to expire at 6pm this evening).

This shows that the rain isn't going anywhere all that soon and as we have at least one flooded road nearby, I am perhaps now thinking that our current yellow warning possibly wasn't enough to that and that we perhaps, should have been included in the amber warning which is in force further north.

I see Swanston in the south of Edinburgh reported over 52mm in the 24hrs up to 0900 today.
That takes the monthly total to over 103mm

I've seen footage of the Edinburgh flooding and much worse flooding further north

I was looking for that Swanston data this morning but at that time, they had updated their page to include all of their 24 hour data up to 9am this morning and not the rainfall data so I can only assume that they must have added that later on.

The good news as well is that the rain has now finally cleared away to my north after falling non-stop for what must have been approaching 36 hours, so we should be close to seeing our final totals for that now without having to worry about that going up again in the meantime.

Now the wettest November, wettest Autumn and wettest season I have recorded in the 17 years I have had my weather station 

An utterly horrendous 141.6mm, beating the previous highest November total of 141.4mm in 2019 

This is the ludicrous 5th month in just four years to breach 140mm compared to only four months in the previous 13 years 

90mm since Tuesday and it still won't relent. The high ground site at Charr near Cairn O'Mount, SW of Stonehaven has recorded 220mm over the same period. Absolute hell for NE Scotland yet again 

Running 30-day rain total here is 198.4mm - the highest since the gut-wrenchingly awful first half of winter 2015/16 

I previously stated that it was unprecedented in over 160 years of records to have four consecutive Autumns with a 130mm+ month. Now we have had four with a 140mm+ month 

Autumnal total now stands at 376.6mm, smashing my previous record for any season of 348.8mm in Autumn 2009. It's the thrid season in just two years to breach 300mm along with Winter 20/21 and Autumn 2021. Prior to that there were only three in 15 years (Autumn 2009, Summer 2012 and Winter 2013/14)

Another day of poison bringing the total up to 158.8mm and still it continues unabated, stuck under a rain band which cleared everywhere else but inexplicably parks itself right over the coastal areas as if we haven't suffered enough 

15th day in this monumentally vile season to record over 10mm. More days than I have recorded in any other season and more than there were in the entirety of 2006, 2013, 2016 and 2018
