The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 Hour Total Up To 9am GMT this morning (09:00 UTC): 9.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 8.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Total since 9am GMT this morning (09:00 UTC): 0.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (as at 11pm GMT tonight on Wednesday 16 November 2022)

Most of this evening's rainfall has avoided us altogether and passed to the east of here.

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 41.8 mm (56.8% of 1991-2020 November average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 33.8 mm (51.8% of 1991-2020 November average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this month so far: 7 (54.4% of 1991-2020 November average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 6 (51.3% of 1991-2020 November average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this month so far: 4 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 5 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

A lot of the rainfall during this month has either being avoiding this part of the world altogether, or fizzling out before it reaches here and as a result, our rainfall totals during this month haven't been as high as elsewhere in the UK although these totals are still much higher than what they were during the earlier part of this year.

Seasonal Data

Total for this Autumn so far: 206.8 mm (97.8% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 191.0 mm (97.5% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this Autumn so far: 33 (90.7% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 33 (98.9% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this Autumn so far: 28 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 27 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

This means that just another 4.8 mm of rain or more now needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this Autumn to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, this also means that just another 5.0 mm of rain or more now needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month in order for this Autumn to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

However, this means that another 4 or more rain days still need to be recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this Autumn to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the number of rain days, but this autumn will go down as being wetter than average at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in terms of the number of rain days if any more rain days are recorded there between now and the end of this month.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 565.2 mm (72.1% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 497.4 mm (68.4% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this year so far: 113 (82.2% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 104 (81.1% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this year so far: 154 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 152 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 Hour Total Up To 9am GMT this morning (09:00 UTC): 4.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 6.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

As I write, it is still raining here and is expected to do so for a good part of the next couple of days according to the latest forecasts, hence the latest official Met Office yellow warning which is in place for that in this part of the world.

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 46.0 mm (62.5% of 1991-2020 November average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 38.6 mm (59.2% of 1991-2020 November average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this month so far: 8 (62.2% of 1991-2020 November average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 6 (51.3% of 1991-2020 November average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this month so far: 4 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 5 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

This means that just another 5 or more rain days now needs to be recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the number of rain days.

Apart from that, this month hasn't actually been all that wet here up until now although that scenario could well change by quite a lot in the next couple of days if the latest forecasts are correct.

Seasonal Data

Total for this Autumn so far: 211.0 mm (99.8% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 195.8 mm (100.0% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this Autumn so far: 34 (93.4% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 33 (98.9% of 1991-2020 Autumn average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this Autumn so far: 28 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 27 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

This means that just another 0.6 mm of rain or more now needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this Autumn to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, this also means that just another 0.2 mm of rain or more now needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month in order for this Autumn to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts

As it is still raining as I write, that requirement is very likely that those requirements will probably already have been met at both of those stations.

Furthermore, just another 3 or more rain days now needs to be recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this Autumn to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the number of rain days.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 569.4 mm (72.6% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 502.2 mm (69.0% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of rain days during this year so far: 114 (83.0% of 1991-2020 year average) at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 104 (81.1% of 1991-2020 year average) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
Number of dry days during this year so far: 154 at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 152 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

It looks as though NE Scotland is expected to see the worst of this wet weather as the yellow warning for up there during tomorrow has now been upgraded to an amber warning.

This means that as per usual, Edinburgh seems to be escaping the absolute worst of this weather which is why our rainfall totals for this month aren't actually all that high.

Breached the 200mm along the coast this way, and beginning to think 300mm is quite possible this month with still 2 weeks left of the month. I'm not sure if 300mm month is exceptionally rare here but idefinitely very rare.

July 2011 or 12 I think, but one afternoon here saw a crazy amount of rain as a streamer of very localised thunderstorms kicked off. Comfortably over 150mm rain in less than 6 hours (very localised) makes anything that fell this month seem trivial.
